I've used a 14mm deep well socket for an alignment pin. Never had any problems, but I always check first before removing subframe bolts. I also use a pick to score the supports in front to help put the subframe in the exact same spot as it was in.

If you start hearing rod knock, don't worry it won't knock for long. (That's because there will be a large hole in the block right before the engine locks up).

Yes, it can be used with stock 1.8t DMF flywheel. This is the same setup that Levi used in his video on "Passat Manual Swap" I'm curious how this setup has worked for him.

I've seen a few videos and a write up on Motorgeek where people have converted Audi AWD cars to RWD by welding up the gears in the center diff of 01E. They did this so they could go drifting. I don't know how long the trannys lasted after that.
