Why did I have DPF and EGR codes but no DPF light? If my DPF filter is cracked and EGR valve clogged, what prevents the warning light? Does this mean the DPF was not full, but DPF cracked due to what?

I see. I'm just very lucky that I'm still registered in a VA county with no emissions. Yet.

Is it definitely cracked? It couldn't be anything else? Asking because I cleared the same code by replacing the (N18) EGR valve. I've been assuming that replacing this valve is just a short term fix...but if the dpf is cracked, does it make sense that the code cleared? Or Maybe it just hasn't...

I'm so thrilled that the VCDS has paid off already... output testing and KOEO testing led me to replace the N18 EGR valve... and so far it seems to have taken care of both codes. Time will tell! Hopefully I haven't just jinxed myself.

Just got VCDS and my first autoscan is giving me expected fault codes p2002 and p0401. But the dates given are 5 years ago (before I bought the car). I expected the date to be the last time the fault was detected. Not so?
