Yes, I got the two mixed up. I changed the one behind the oil filler cap and cleared the error and all is well. Looks like I should upgrade to a newer version of Vcds.

Just wanted to bump this thread with some info. AARodriguezCorp was great in getting me 2 sets of these, and I just got one set installed in my 2003 wagon. Beforehand, I hooked up a battery tester to them to make sure they glowed evenly and down the body, just like the video. All was OK...

I don't think the connections are that different between years, certainly not from what I've seen. Best bet is to take pics of what you have and then match them up elsewhere. You may want to look at Passat seats too, see here: http://forums.vwvortex.com/showthread.php?3161647
