Well... a little drive, an hour or so's work, 240 bucks, and I've got most of what I need to pass the brake and light inspection for the rebuilt title. There will be a few more trips involved to get things 100% but we had a productive day today.
Yes based on what I'm reading there's some hoops I'm going to have to jump through. The brake and lights inspection is actually it's entire own inspection and they will be stringent based on what I'm finding. It's not like the smog shops that have to be smog only... these places do repairs as...
I needed every body part/panel on the front end besides the driver side fender, plus paint headlights and supports hood latch etc. The total was over 5k on the estimate. Yours sounds like significant work and that's a good price, if I had a shop here that did good work at those rates the whole...
As a further update, I was just going to let it go... but I had a change of heart at the last minute and decided that she had not met her end yet! I purchased a new (lightly used) truck that will get me by while dealing with the salvage process and located a place where the Golf could be stored...
It's not end of the world but it would be headlights/bumper/grill/emblem/hood/passenger fender all needing to be replaced. Maybe some supports and the latch assembly damaged as well. It's mainly a matter of time and space, parking is very limited where I live and with the inspections and...
So I've just been sitting back a little bit as this conversation took a few turns. Thanks for all the opinions!
I was finally able to speak with the higher level estimator today and managed to get the value raised by a few hundred dollars with the help of some of the resources shared here...
The issue is establishing what fair market value actually is, especially since we are in a market which has recently been destabilized by covid and inflation and I've having trouble finding comparable vehicles even listed for sale and appreciate the resources that have been left here.
Thank you I'll add those to the list I'm putting together. That is my car in the pic, I meant it's a slightly older picture maybe taken 2 years ago or so... but prior to the accident it looked exactly the same still / was in the same condition.
California requires they pay fair market value, not the wholesale "cash value/book value" or whatever they call it other places.
Yup that's the plan, if anyone has any references even to asking prices for equivalent vehicles in the general region it would help!
I used to have a legal service...
I probably would have agreed a few years ago, but the used car market is crazy since Covid and Inflation and chip shortages. I don't believe I could buy a similar condition equivalent vehicle at that price point and I think a clean manual transmission ALH is a desirable car even with the...
My 5 speed 02 ALH Golf w/307k miles on it got hit by a negligent driver. I'm in Southern California and they're offering me $3200 to total out the vehicle, my car was in excellent condition cosmetically and mechanically and I feel like this is low based off of limited sales of junkers with...
So I still haven't been able to get a log of trying to force it into limp mode, but I was able to do some testing on the vacuum system.
Actuator begins movement at around 2-3" and ends around 18", which I believe is to spec.
I ran engine basic settings group 11 for N75 and with the Mityvac...
There's also no synchro on reverse and it seems like (especially as the gear box gets worn) that it is occasionally hard to get it into reverse... when this happens I just move it through a couple other gears and then it generally will go in.
An (overdue) update here, so we've done about 35k miles since the last post.
All the parts mentioned previously have been installed, and I decided to lower the car slightly ~3/4". Also got some fancy mpg killing wheels (I guess there's a price to looking good ;)), installed glass headlight...
Just wanted to say what a pleasure it was dealing with Richard. Fast responses, good prices and quick shipping. If anyone is looking for something I wouldn't hesitate to get in touch with him.
Yeah I had done some wire repair in that area related to the same code a few years back, possible it's come undone. I will look into it, and report back with more info regarding the overboost situation as soon as I have more data.
Thanks to everyone so far who's helped out here!
Gotcha, currently I'm only showing:
19561 - Valve for Intake Manifold Flap (N239)
P3105 - 35-10 - Open or Short to Ground - Intermittent
Which is actually something I thought I had fixed, and had stayed away for quite a while so might actually be intermittent.
Once I get done...
Then you have been luckier than me :) I believe I'm 2 for 2, one with an impact and one with a wrench... both on the passenger side, I'm not sure if that's a pattern or not.
I've had got experiences with all the bits that I've gotten from idparts, actually good experiences with pretty much...
