Lots of soot in the oil and the oil is thickening up.

Due to issues with my high mileage ALH, I have been changing the oil every 3000 miles. I know the manual specs a synthetic 5w40, but is there any harm in running a 15w40 conventional oil for such a short OCI?

I am anything but, however a slight bout of desperation has me considering it. My other option is to select from two turbos on rockauto Rotomaster: $484 MAHLE: $694 With the rotomaster being significantly less, I feel like its quality is in question.

I need to replace the serpentine belt in my 2003 Jetta. On rock auto I have the option of getting a belt with or without air conditioning. Not quite sure what is meant by this. I'm assuming it has to do with the belt running the AC compressor. Which belt should I get?
