New tdi engines built for lighter duty than old ones?

From what I could tell, the person who made the comment was talking about the quality of the build of the engine and the materials used. I figured that our mkVI engines would have more maintenence problems with sensors and electronics and that beacause they are VW built, but those things can...

New tdi engines built for lighter duty than old ones?

I was just reading a comment on a thread that was in a discussion about the cost of owning diesel cars v. petrol ones. A person replied that modern diesel engines, especially in passenger cars, are built to a lower spec than old diesel engines and that coupled with the fact that gasoline engines...

    towing trailers

Hmm. This is the second time I have used the search function, found nothing and had people tell me there is lots of info on the topic. Where should I look? Maybe I'm doing this wrong. Still pretty new here. :)

    towing trailers

So I have a small sailboat (laser) and i was wondering if I could throw a tow package on my '11 golf and tow it behind? The boat is maybe 400 lbs trailer and all. Do you think that could overheat the DSG? I see similar cars in Europe towing much heavier things like caravans. Do you think it cold...

Fuel additive OK with 2012 TDI?

So after I added my opti lube, (about 4 oz) I thought that it was running more smoothly on the way to the fuel station. I switched off and topped up the tank only about 3 gallons to hopefully wash the additive around and get it all down the fuel neck. After I switched back on, it seemed be...

Fuel additive OK with 2012 TDI?

Ok! :-) the deed is done! About four oz added in the driveway without adding fuel. Got a wee bit on my finger because the bottle is still pretty full, but thats all. Stinks badly. Do u think it will find its way into the fuel without having added any just yet?

Fuel additive OK with 2012 TDI?

Im wondering how specific measurement needs to be. Can I simply pour in around 4 oz give or take an oz? There is a clear measuring window on the side of the opti lube bottle with 4 oz lines. Can I just try and get close with that? After all, I see that one an add double the amount in cold weather..

Fuel additive OK with 2012 TDI?

To some extent, I would be using an additive to maybe help with the HPFP. I have a feeling that no matter what, our diesel engines will far outlast out VW electronics, sensors, computers, etc. At least in my case, while I do take care of my engine in basic ways, oil change, gentle before warm up...

Fuel additive OK with 2012 TDI?

Ok. So nix the plastic bottle.. Do you think that if i used a glass paerreir bottle after it dried or something that that would be ok? Just so I have an appropriate head size to fit my fuel hole?

Fuel additive OK with 2012 TDI?

FINALLY got my Opti Lube in today!! Am excited to fill the tank and see what the differences are. Thanks Lightflyer for the warning on the smell and difficutly in washing off. Does anyone have any recommendations for adding? I only purchased the quart with no equipment. Do you think I could...

Fuel additive OK with 2012 TDI?

Agreed. In addition, I think the added lubricity and cetane can only help with the HPFP. While it is indeed a gut feeling it is one that the evidence backs up. Did anyone purchase the extended warranty? Have there been any replacements under the extended 3rd party warranty?

Fuel additive OK with 2012 TDI?

I'm just trying to clarify; it's only the new models that have any hpfp issue at all, correct? All the previous generations of fuel pumps have stood perfectly fine on their own with no major issues noted as far as I can tell..
