You don't say how many miles are on it. The DPF is covered under Federal Emissions Warranty. I had mine replaced for free before it was sold back to VW with over 60K on it.
Turned in after 1600 on 12/30 I would say is not a countable day. Weekend days are not business days. 1/2 is recognized as a holiday since 1/1 fell on a Sunday. If you count the three business days I wouldn't expect to hear anything before 1/5 or 1/6.
However, in my case I turned mine in on...
This isn't just old news, it is very old news that is cycling through a slow news cycle of another way to bash VW. I read about this at least six months ago.
A wiper arm puller is a cheap tool and absolutely works without flaw. I have used mine several times working on the Mother In Law's and Wife's Chrysler vans. Need to remove the wiper arms and what I call a bowl to get reasonable access to the firewall side of the engine.

I would push back at the dealer that the problem is getting worse. I had a similar with the lock module going bad and it was goodwill covered by VW because it was reported before everything stopped working on the driver's door. I see you spend time in Suffolk, VA. If you would like a scan...
I would like to know if he has a source also. I happen to believe he is right about reliability being a problem though even if it is his own personal opinion.

Here are troubleshooting steps from the Ross Tech site. I would pay particular attention to the part at the bottom about the CR-TDI and the exhaust flap known problem potentially causing this code. If you search this site for that...
Is the ground post on the battery itself loose? It looks like the battery case is cracked around the ground post in your picture.
If it does move, then it is definitely a bad battery. If it doesn't it could still be broken internally and be bad.
