Are you saying it cranks slow? I can't say I've seen it on a newer car, 2014 is newer to me, but I would say a failing starter. On the earlier cars, that's how they act up, slow crank on the first start of the day.

I think the cure here is to connect the two wires together that go to the pad to turn out the light. If you think it has to look intact for your inspection tape it up so it looks complete to the pad.

I would agree that the best chance of success here would be a new valve cover.

I just added the valve cover for CKRA Passats. I have the cover alone and also with the injector bolts and injector seals. I also rent the tool to remove the cam seal if you're going all out to fix your leaky Passat...
