Car takes much longer to fire when warm vs. cold

I know they don't like the cold. What I'm saying is it starts easier when cold and takes longer when hot. Usually diesels are opposite.

Car takes much longer to fire when warm vs. cold

Hey guys, So ever since I bought my 05 BEW I've always noticed that when the car is cold it starts as soon as I turn the key, but when warm or hot it cranks for a few seconds before it starts. Just curious as to if anyone else had this same thing happen. The car has a brand new fuel filter and...

    PD Fuel injector maintenance

That's good info and great to know. My BEW has roughly 340k miles and I have no service history on it. So that may go on my preventative maintenance list. Great post

    What tires are you running?

I run a set of super cheap starfire solarus 195/65/15's. I paid less than 40 bucks a pop and I still get 43+ mpg. Good traction in the rain and snow and the tires still look great 15k miles later. I got the car dirt cheap, so I went with cheapies on the first set. I may get nice michelin's down...

Timing belt lifter no damage curiosity DISCUSSION

I'm in the same boat myself with my 05 BEW TDI. A section of teeth on my old TB got ripped off and the belt skipped a tooth towards the retarded side. I saw no visible lifter damage, so I decided to risk it and do a new belt, water pump, tensioner and idler. The injection pump is ran off the cam...

Junkyard ALH vs teardown and rebuild

Just curious, how much of the teeth were missing on the belt? I just had a similar issue with my BEW. Timing was a tooth off towards the retarded side. I threw a new belt and water pump on it after seeing no eveidence of lifter damage. Car runs perfectly fine now. Just going to wing it and if...

    Broken Timing Belt...UGGGGH

OK guys, the car is all set! The issue I was having was the cam sensor being way out of range. Thank god for VCDS. My regular scanner wasn't picking up the fault for the sensor. The car fired up with the sensor unplugged and wouldn't start with it plugged in. When I did the new belt I must have...

    Broken Timing Belt...UGGGGH

I agree with what your saying. Thankfully the car is basically free at this point. I scored it for less than a grand and it's already saved me almost $1500 in fuel costs. As for this start and die issue, I'm losing my mind and don't know what else to try. I ordered a vag com cable and I'm going...

    Broken Timing Belt...UGGGGH

I appreciate the input. JETaah tbe MAF is plugged in as well. When I started taking things apart today, it looked like the belt was only a tooth or 2 off from being timed perfect. There was a ton of compression too. To help give you guys a better understanding of what happened, I'll try and...

    Broken Timing Belt...UGGGGH

So today I put a new belt and water pump on so I could test for compression. After I put it all back together and tried to start it the car runs for a second then shuts off EXACTLY like the immobilizer. I don't have the immobilizer light lit, but it acts just like that. Tried disconnecting the...

    Broken Timing Belt...UGGGGH

Time isn't on my side though. The TDI is my commuter for work and I need it back on the road asap. I'd love to just wing it throw a belt on it, but it'd be a miracle if no damags was done.

    Broken Timing Belt...UGGGGH

Welp I'm kicking myself in the ass for not doing it as soon as I got the car. I scored it for less than a grand at auction and all it needed was brakes and tires. I had planned on doing it right away, but life happens and there's never enough time in a day. All it would've taken was a quick...

    Broken Timing Belt...UGGGGH

I agree on all fronts. I'll update once I take a look at the head. Any recommendations on the best place to find a real good service manual for our cars? I've heard a lot about emanualsonline. Any other suggestions? Thanks

    Broken Timing Belt...UGGGGH

I appreciate all the feedback. Mike_04 I'm not sure if the car is tuned, but I do know it has an EGR block off kit that was on it when I bought it. I may also try and get a used head locally too. I'm kind of in a pinch at the moment and need the car fixed ASAP. My plan is to get the car...

    Broken Timing Belt...UGGGGH

So the timing belt on my beloved 340k mile TDI (05 Golf) broke today. It didn't snap, but there's about a 6 inch section of teeth missing. So it skipped a tooth or more. I was getting on the highway then felt a massive loss of power. I shut the car off thinking it was just in the dreaded limp...

WTB MK4 Golf Cold Weather Mask/Grill Cover

I hope some of them come up at some point. I can't believe VW doesn't make them anymore. They're just about impossible to find these days.

WTB MK4 Golf Cold Weather Mask/Grill Cover

Hey Guys, New to the forum and am looking for a VW cold weather mask for my 05 Golf TDI. The oem part # is ZVW-193-899. I know I can make my own, but would prefer the oem mask kit. Let me know if you have one. Thanks!
