Est. Value of my \'00 Jetta?
It would seem that with a modest amount of money invested in sprucing the car up, you would more than recover the investment in higher resale value...appearance is what sells a used car...don't mention the timing belt being due...
New windshield $300ish

Looks like this guy is in North Charleston, SC

Kind of an annoying flash site, but this looks like the guy.
Google is a wonderful thing...
95K miles and 4+ years...just replaced the first headlight bulb on 2000 Jetta (DRLs on).
On 2 NBs that i take care of, headlight bulbs burn out constantly...
i'd be interested in knowing the TSB number if anyone has it handy...

Harder compound and with the bias rear brake set-up on the MKIV you get wear out of a set of PIGID PADS!
[/ QUOTE ]
Sure, the pads will last forever...but you'll go thru rotors at twice the rate. Something has to wear away in a friction brake system. If not the pads...well you can...
impex has them for $63.50 each. By the time you get done paying for shipping though, the cost will be close to what the dealer wants. Plus you'll have to wait.
Try Wheels and Rims.com
they have wheels for $49.50 ea. I have not done any business with them, so you're on your own.
Yes, i plan to replace the MAF in any case.
The car has been maintained exclusively by me for the last 2 years. TB 15K miles ago. Intake manifold cleaned out. EGR mod done. All periodic maintenance is up to date, filters are fresh, etc.

This is a friend's car. Occasionally when the engine isn't quite warmed up (blue thermometer light on), as the car is decellerating and the clutch is depressed around 12 - 1500 rpm the engine dies. It starts right back up with no further...
The only thing that i would add to the above advice would be to insist that only OEM parts are used in the repair.Ask to see the packing slips/invoices if you have any doubts. A good shop will gladly do this.
Glad you weren't hurt...

My winter mileage typically drops 2 - 3 mpg (51ish down to 48 - 49). I imagine it coincides with the introduction of the winter blend fuel...not sure exactly when that is around these parts.

Do TDI\'s use coolant?
I would advise you to get that puppy to the dealer ASAP ! It may be nothing but you do want to get it documented and looked at before your warranty runs out...(is it 40K or 50K on the '02s?)
My '00 Jetta hasn't used a drop in 90K miles. FowVays course of action sounds...

6$ times the # of tanks you consume in a year (so far I used about 22 tanks since June 3rd) makes about 132$ saved over a 4 and a half month period or around 400$ a year.
If you'd have 400$ in your pocket right now, what would you do?

While i agree that high fuel mileage numbers can be exhilarating....some quick math revealed that you cost yourself about 2.6 hours of your life to save $6 in fuel cost...
I'll take the hit on mileage to get there sooner....especially on a trek of that magnitude....just my...
the cost of two oil analyses ($30) will far exceed the cost of 5 quarts of your oil of choice (if they can even tell you what type of oil it is for $15). if you are that worried about it, drain the sump and refill with your own oil...
