    2006 Beetle general questions

So, I drove the car yesterday, and it drives well. The leatherette is coming undone from the door panel, but that’s cosmetic and can be fixed. There was a whooshing sound on startup, so maybe someone could weigh in on that. Possibly turbo leak? It didn’t seem to affect driving or performance...

    2006 Beetle general questions

It’s a manual transmission. We’re gonna test drive it tomorrow to see how it is. I just wanted to see if anyone had any feedback about issues (engine; EGR; nozzles; etc) with that era Beetle. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

    2006 Beetle general questions

Hey all, Sorry for the general thread, but I’m hoping to get some feedback on the 2006 Beetle. My wife found a listing for one today with 185k miles for $3000. She’s interested in checking it out and maybe getting it as a daily commuter to save money from driving the van around. Also, our...

    Why watch NASCAR?

It's funny how little most of you know, or are willing to learn, about NASCAR. Sure, there's a lot they need to improve upon, but the sport is not nearly as primitive or behind-the-times as most of you think. Personally, I'd rather spend the time learning about something first before I spouted...

solicitiing opinions: jsw vs passat wagon

sundowner, are you comparing the jsw to an 08 passat wagon or an 04-05 passat wagon? the b6, as i understand it, is bigger than the b5.5. i've read alot of different posts/reviews that say the jsw is just about as big as the b5.5 wagon. but the shape of the cargo area would of course have an...

solicitiing opinions: jsw vs passat wagon

rod, thanx for the input. would you mind giving me an update after a few weeks of use? my schedule is keeping me from getting to the dealership to test drive one, so in the meantime i'm trying to gather as much info as possible. from everything i'm hearing so far, it sounds like the jsw is...

solicitiing opinions: jsw vs passat wagon

thanx for the responses. i've been perfectly happy with the passat except for the transmission. while fine on the hwy, the car just feels like a dog in the city. it's too quirky. even with RC2 -- which has helped things out tremendously -- city driving is not a very pleasant experience. what...

solicitiing opinions: jsw vs passat wagon

hi, i have an '05 passat wagon. love the car. i'm at 78k miles, and i'm to the point where i will soon have to replace the bs module, a $3000 job or so (that's counting the timing belt change). while i love that car and will pay for the upgrade, i've been recently thinking about the...

Dealer quoted $375 labor to replace outer CV boots?

i'm going to have to have mine replaced. i'm on a trip to memphis and thought that i would wait to make it home and do it myself, but i'm starting to hear them pretty bad and i think i'm going to have to bite the bullet and get it done at the dealer. so, eye2, your dealer quoted price of parts...

B5.5 Improved Power and Economy - RocketChip Stage 1

when jeff did my rc2, i'm pretty sure he said the 1134 recode was something he did staandard on the b5.5's. could be mistaken, but i'm pretty sure it's incorporated. i had already had mine recoded before i got chipped

i was going to drive to charlotte tonite to have less of a drive in the morning. now, i think i will stay home tonite and see what it does. if it looks ok, i'll be there by 10-10:30 in the morning. i'm not hopeful now, though, cuz every forecast now has rdu getting 6-10 inches. at least the kids...

dan, i think wade (engineerorange) and i were planning on helping each other with brake flushes. wade, i guess we should choose who will order the fluid, to save on shipping, or get from one of the vendors coming. pm me with ideas

I'm more than willing to help, and i can bring whatever is needed as far as food, supplies, etc. I'm trying to figure out the wiki; I registered for it but can't figure out how to post to it. So, if anyone wants me to bring anything, let me know

I'm hoping to be there. Shouldn't be a problem making it. Would like help from Wade with brake fluid change, if he's willing

Where do you folks hang out the frostheater plug?

mine comes out on the passenger side. i zip tied a path along the bottom of the engine bay, out of the way of anything that looked as if it might melt the cord. don't have any pix, but it is more recessed than narfblast's; it doesn't protrude that much, but is still easy to get to and is always...

B5.5 Improved Power and Economy - RocketChip Stage 1

i get confused about all the transmission codings, but here are 2 links that help explain somewhat: http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?p=1021297 http://www.passatworld.com/forums/showthread.php?t=116118 i have the 1134 plus rc2, and the car is amazing to drive. still need to get that...

    Dealer Suggestions

well, since -- according to vw -- the transmission fluid in the b5.5's is a "lifetime" fluid with no need for change, ever, why would the dealer even be checking it? (btw, i changed mine at 50k and it was pretty solid then, very little sludge on the magnet and still pretty good looking)
