I appreciate the offer. I believe I've got all of the parts on hand at this point, except the tools related to the crank bolt & seal. Sounds like I've got those headed my way tomorrow, so hopefully I'll be wrapping these particular shenanigans this week.
Thx for the response, @Nero Morg. That's more or less the answer I expected with a solution I've definitely seen before.
I'm pretty skittish about messing up the PTFE front crank seal without the correct installer and guide, but I guess I'll never know if I don't try.
How risky to drive with a partially broken oil pump tensioner?
2002 Jetta (mk4, ALH, 01m, ~270k miles) had a little mishap some time back. Hasn't been driven since. Engine turns appropriately by hand. When I pulled the punctured oil pan to check for additional damage, happened to notice the oil...
Naw, crank seal just getting replaced because when I was checking everything because of the curb, I discovered the oil pump plastic tensioner piece had been degrading over time and needs replacing.
Front crank seal carrier will need to come out to replace the oil pump tensioner.
To complete...
Haha thx for the confirmations.
@BobnOH fair question. Tensioner, etc unrelated to the curb check. After I dropped what was left of the oil pan, I was doing a visual inspection of everything I could and just happened to notice the plastic oil pump chain tensioner because it looked brittle...
I'm replacing the oil pump tensioner & chain (and pump, baffle, pan) after my Jetta lightly caressed a curb. I've done the TB in the past year, so I'm trying to do as little of the same work again. Oil is drained (plenty of help w/ that from the curb). Engine rotates by hand with appropriate...
This is the sort of "duh, *** didn't I think of that?" solution that may do more for me than all the new vacuum hoses and vacuum pump o-rings and JB weld ever have.
Resurrecting this mega-old thread just to say I came across a couple of these at a local TDI shop when I was looking for a used power steering pressure hose. About to try installing it.
Part number on my power steering pressure hose with coil (presumably for an MK4 auto with A/C): 1J0422893EG
Copy you. Honestly, if it was a wagon w/ even half of the mods and similar quality, I'd have already begged/borrowed/burgled to make it happen. GF is determined that my next vehicle has room to sleep for when/if work ever comes back.
When I was at Steve's shop, he and his assistant (on whose name I drawing a blank), they both noted it was an impressive car in remarkably nice condition (my interpretation, don't recall their specific words).
I mentioned that it continues to entice me, though I wasn't sure I could...
18 ft/lb.
I've read through a bunch of related threads as I finished getting my 02 Jetta back together, and the general process that's been described is:
-clean/dry threads of studs and holes in cylinder head
-hand start / snug (finger tight) exhaust studs
-thread your nuts
-torque to 18 ft/lb...
