For A4's, disable the low voltage sensing circuit (#7 pin) contained in the emergency flasher switch, and problem solved.

Being that they're both both versions of the European PD 150 turbo, what are the differences?
Edit: found this - http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=154079&highlight=gt1749va

I was surfing KermaTDI website and noted the descriptions of the BEW and ALH turbos.
VNT17 (BEW) vs GT1749VB (ALH) - both versions of the European PD 150 turbo.
So excluding the plumbing and actuator differences, are these turbos identical?

Edit: Yes they are.

"Automotive charging systems for flooded lead acid often have a fixed float voltage setting of 14.40V (2.40V/cell), and a direct replacement with a sealed unit could spell trouble by exposing the battery to undue overcharge on a long drive. AGM and other sealed batteries do not like heat...
Have you replaced the camshaft position sensor?
A bad camshaft position sensor will cause engine stall too, just like you described.
Been there, done that.
As a side note, I never use after market parts for this, always genuine VW.

Short of doing fluid analysis, I don't know if that can be determined.
7.1 is not compatible and cannot be mixed with 11s or 202.
If you suspect you have 7.1 installed and want to move up to 11s or 202, just do a good flush and replace.

Resistors not necessary on the MK4.
Just disable the low voltage sensing circuit by cutting pin 7 in the emergency flasher unit.
