Replaced Broken Trans, Now Clutch Slips

So after pulling the trans and evaluating everything in the clutch assembly, I concluded everything was well within spec and in perfect working order. I scuffed the clutch disc, pressure plate, and flywheel, before reinstalling the trans. The slipping remained. I changed out the slave...

Replaced Broken Trans, Now Clutch Slips

Thanks everyone for the input! Before pulling the transmission for the second time, I pulled off the clutch slave to feel if there was tension on the clutch fork, and I was able to wiggle it freely, so it was not bound up, and when the trans was removed, it was seating fine on the pivot...

    Overboosting help

I would check the waste gate actuator. They're a known common problem. They will stick, sometimes open, in your case closed, and it hinders or completely eliminates its ability to hold a constant boost. If I let my car sit for more than a couple weeks, it will do real screwy things when I...

Replaced Broken Trans, Now Clutch Slips

I'd also like to note, that as soon as I took the car out of the garage, I noticed the clutch grabbing high on the clutch pedal, but just attributed it to being a mental thing, having not driven the car in months (my other car grabs very low).

Replaced Broken Trans, Now Clutch Slips

About 10,000 miles ago, I did a clutch job on my Passat 1z/02A, using an OEM SACHS VR6 clutch, as recommended on the forums. The car ran flawlessly for years. The differential eventually developed excessive backlash, and cracked the transmission case, creating a very slow seep of oil out from...

WTB: (CT) 02A TDI Trans (AHU/1z)

WTB: (CT) 02A TDI Transmission (AHU/1z) Like the title states, I'm in search of a MK3 or B4 TDI manual transmission. I have cash in hand and would like a replacement relatively quickly. I am located in central CT but am willing to drive a bit for a decent deal. I don't care if it's dirty or a...

WTB: 1Z (or AHU) Accessory Bracket

I am in search of an accessory bracket (with tensioner arm, tensioner itself is not needed, as I have a new one) for a 1Z TDI. I'm having a hard time finding one on ebay, though ALH ones seem to be rather plentiful. The tensioner arm on mine wore through the bushings before I owned the motor...

    External waste gate conversion

I'm actually in the process of putting an external wastegate on my 1z-swapped MK2. As most of us early TDI guys know, 1z and AHU wastegate actuators fail pretty regularly. A lot of them can be revived with a good cleaning and greasing, but for me, I've had no such luck. A new OEM wastegate...

Malone Stage 3; boost spikes then plummets

The N75 I replaced, as mine was known to be bad. I blew out all my vacuum lines as well, though they're only 2 years old. However, I have not heard of oil in the actuator. That's something I will investigate. Thanks!

Malone Stage 3; boost spikes then plummets

Yes, it opened as it should at 10-12psi. I was using my 33 gallon compressor so the gauge isn't super accurate. It held the pressure as long as I had the waste gate line hooked up to the source. As soon as it was removed it closed. However, I did decide to clean and grease it as best I could...

Malone Stage 3; boost spikes then plummets

Well JFettig & Abacus, I got underneath the car to get a good view of the wastegate actuator, and fed it 15psi, 20psi, and 25psi. All three times it opened right up all the way instantly, and when the pressure source was removed, it slammed back closed. It was moving very freely and...

Malone Stage 3; boost spikes then plummets

I replaced the rubber line inside the ECU, and disconnected and blew out all of the other lines on the car with an air compressor to clear out any condensation or oil. This made no difference. I will be getting the car in the air this afternoon to mess around with the wastegate. I fed...

Malone Stage 3; boost spikes then plummets

Thanks to the both of you for the input! I never really thought about it being an issue, since it runs 10psi without any issue off of waste gate pressure, but then again I've never ran more than that until now. I will investigate a bit more tonight or tomorrow and report back!

Malone Stage 3; boost spikes then plummets

I'm pretty sure I ruled OUT the N75, as the same symptoms were occurring with a manual boost controller. For some reason, the computer is drastically cutting power after an over-boost (25ish PSI) but then returning to normal in quick fashion. It's cutting power like an over-boost response...

Malone Stage 3; boost spikes then plummets

Threw in my spare manual boost controller in place of the N75 and it's showing the same symptoms. Faulty N75 is off the list of culprits. I noticed that if I ease into the throttle as opposed to going wide open throttle quickly, it'll hold boost. If I get on the throttle quickly and initiate...

Malone Stage 3; boost spikes then plummets

Just chipped my TDI ('97 1Z) with a Malone Stage 3 (with EGR delete) tune. Sprint 520 nozzles, upgraded intercooler, catless downpipe, VR6 clutch. The car seems to build and hold boost pretty decent in the lower gears, but in 4th and 5th primarily, I notice the boost spiking to 25psi and then...
