    MKIV radio/cd w/tools and card

Usable in 2002 Jetta? I have an 02 Jetta with the Monsoon system, but radio head looks a little different than mine. My radio's been dead a while, could really use this if it will work. dh

    NYT: Can Detroit Be Relevant?

Maybe, but this bean-counter's perspective doesn't make any difference whatsoever to the consumer, who ultimately has to pay to keep ALL of the pockets filled. Beauracracy is probably GM's #1 problem. We got on this tangent because a poster basically stated that multitudes of UAW line...

    NYT: Can Detroit Be Relevant?

I traveled to Shanghai, China about a year ago. That city of 18 million people has LOTS of people on bicycles and motorcyles, but the roads are clogged with cars and trucks as well. It's hard to find a vehicle with less than 3 or 4 people in it. I would guess two-thirds or more of the cars on...

    NYT: Can Detroit Be Relevant?

But I'm talking about non-union workers, many of whom had already been given early-retirement buyouts and who still get benefits as contractors. The scenario is very well-known around here and everyone shakes their heads at the enormous waste. Some of these guys are still collecting the...

Engine damage running on WVO... see pics...

I just had my injector nozzles changed in preparation for a WVO conversion and one of the brand new Bosio nozzles was streaming from all 5 holes right out of the box when we pop tested it. Had I just dropped that in and started driving I probably could have holed my piston on the hour and a...

    NYT: Can Detroit Be Relevant?

Exactly. An essential job is an essential job. Deal with it. It should also be mentioned that workers in US Toyota plants (and those of other foreign makers) make just about as much as the UAW workers do up here. Non-union plants still have to pay their workers well because of the threat of...

    NYT: Can Detroit Be Relevant?

GM is probaby the biggest offender at wasting its own resources, and their union labor agreements are only one part of the problem. A couple years ago during a major downsizing, many staff engineers and other non-union people were let go. Six months later, GM decided they needed many of those...

    NYT: Can Detroit Be Relevant?

The Ford Ranger was available briefly in the 80s with a Mazda Diesel engine in it. There are still a few floating around. I ended up going to the NAIAS here in Detroit yesterday during the industry preview period--some tickets were made available at the last minute, and the second half of...

    NYT: Can Detroit Be Relevant?

My employer is paying for us to go, but we have to attend during the public portion, not a preview. I'll be down there sometime between the 19th and 26th. I think the last time I went was 2 or 3 years ago. It's usually interesting at the least. I don't think things are over for Detroit by...

Ham Radio Install 01 Jetta TDI

I used to run Morse on HF in the car--while driving, in a car with a manual tranny. Had a J-38 on the passenger seat. It doesn't have to be dangerous, but a flukey situation on the road combined with me doing my logging in a less-than-optimal way for the car led to a bad car accident that I...

    Radio control backlighting

I have an '02 Jetta I bought used a few months ago. If there ever was backlighting behind those knobs, it's out on my car too. Not sure if it ever was there, but I'm not really worried about it.

Yikes! Lesson learned changing injector nozzles today.

That seems like a good method. Make sure they're not only in spec, but that there is also close agreement between all four injectors. The missing piece then is, how much variation in IQ is reason for concern?

Yikes! Lesson learned changing injector nozzles today.

Hi Frank, Thanks for jumping in. The guru doing the test said that nozzles should typically be replaced at 100k miles or so. We didn't really expect to find problems at 77k miles (where I am now), but in the event we did, Marty pointed out that we'd have to put the thing back together anyway...

Yikes! Lesson learned changing injector nozzles today.

This is what I thought was the case, but I wasn't sure. What still isn't clear to me (and apparently some other posters in this thread) is whether or not the problem would have been detectable from the way the engine ran PRIOR to piston meltdown. Wrenchman says there would be white smoke. Is...

Can VAG-COM detect CAT Plugging in 2000 VW New Beetle TDI

Too many hours on the red-eye, DB? I don't think he even said he HAS a problem, just looking for ways to verify his catalytic converter isn't plugged up.

Yikes! Lesson learned changing injector nozzles today.

I'm not sure that it wouldn't have cause engine damage even just running D2. The atomized fuel is not supposed to ever actually touch the piston (according to Drivbiwire) and a streaming injector defeats a lot of design intentions. In the recent thread on this board about a (possibly)...

Yikes! Lesson learned changing injector nozzles today.

Everyone seems to have an opinion on this, but there is wide disagreement on what is best. I've decided on stock because more VO injected means a greater chance of unburned VO blowing into the sump. Also, if the oil is properly filtered and heated, it shouldn't clog the nozzles. Vigilance in...

Help - Radio on but no sound. Mystery short???

That's an ugly one. Could be a few things inside or out of the radio (I assume you do not have an external amplifier?). Sounds like you have some idea of what you're looking at here. I would take a good close look at that harness at both the radio and speaker ends just to make sure it's OK...
