I have no idea why the horn wasn't going as well but I'm grateful for that at least!
I was surprised that pulling fuses had no effect on the flashers but someone at work said that pointed at the security system as the source of the problem; so before I got to pulling the battery and having it...
It looks like it was the security system--interesting since I didn't have it activated when I bought the car.
I stoppped the flashers by locking and unlocking the car after which it started right up.
Car started right off as usual this morning. After being at work for an hour, I got in the car went to start it and the emergency flashers started going??? Turning the flasher switch off or on changes the sound the flasher relay makes but they continue flashing no matter what.
And the starter...
Yes, I believe that's it. Jaydhall and Drivebywire explained it to me at the last Denver GTG. It is an A4 problem--as I understand it, VW changed the MAF sensor element from A3 to A4 and the new one is prone to fouling and easily damaged when cleaning. Try a search on MAF and see what comes...
Re: Diesel Geek\'s oil cooler/heat exchanger
OOps. Just noticed your car is an A4 -- no spin on filter. You should call Jim at Dieselgeek and ask him about it. The phone number is on the website.
Re: Diesel Geek\'s oil cooler/heat exchanger
Jim,
My guess is that the seal below would be the seal on the spin-on oil filter. The seal above comes with the new unit.

Re: Diesel Geek\'s oil cooler/heat exchanger
I found the install of the cooler on my B4 real tough. I should say the removal of the old one was real tough. Bad enough that I had to give up on it finally. If someone has done this on a B4, I'd love to hear about it, if not, I hope these notes...
Very exciting read. Thanks.
The discharge rate of the supercaps can likely be tweaked through chipping allowing for instantaneous discharge thereby ejecting all parts of the powertrain at high velocity in a hemispherical pattern.
Peter,
I drove my Passat on typical cheap diesel for the first few tanks until I learned better here at Fred's. When I switched to 50cetane Total (or Amoco lately) I noticed no more bucking when cold and a big reduction in smoke.
Speaking of smoke blowers, don't mind Texas Bill.
I bought an Oilguard filter some time ago but never got around to installing. I didn't have time but also, I couldn't find a satisfactory way to hang it.
I couldn't get comfortable with the method of used by many of bolting or welding an adapter the stamped metal fan shroud although a member...
Thanks, Tom.
The unsound part is the soldering/brazing. I don't think it can be strong enough because there is unsufficient contact surface.
It might be better to use JB Weld between the copper sleeve and the plastic pipe (to seal and bond) and to put a ring of it around the fitting on the...
Re: Diesel Geek\'s oil cooler/heat exchanger
Jim,
When you said the other day that the filter is widely available did you mean it is a stock part for certain VW/Audi models?
