    WTB - B4 front crossmember / cross-member

There's a slight difference between the B4 VR6 and the B4 TDI cross member in the front motor mount area. It wasn't preventing the AAA out, 1Z in work I was doing in my swap because they were pretty close, but,...... Be aware that there is a difference

Alignment after Complete Suspension Refresh- Dealer or Firestone?

Don't pretend to expect that a dealer or a tire retailer will do any adjustments that aren't cam adjustable. Sub-frame shift? Replace TTY bolts or nuts? Anything on the rear axle? :ROFLMAO: You pay for a 'four wheel alignment'. They park the car crookedly on the table, print out a sheet that...

    Any New Hampshire guys?

Audi Shrewsbury MA: Thumbs up for work, thumbs down for price. Estimate (2 years ago) for turbo replacement on her Audi Q5 was $4500. Work was deferred. Reflex Hooksett NH: Thumbs up for work, thumbs down for price. Estimate (this year) for turbo replacement was $5~6k. KMH Methuen MA: Thumbs up...

Battery Registration: What, Why and How To Do It?

I suspect the Midtronics "sky-is-falling" in reality is no more than a battery equivalent of a tire pressure sensor re-learn process.

Focus: Gas-electric hybrid vehicles get a boost in the US from Ford, others

I sold my diesel cars and went to a 1st generation Volt when I quit my multi-hour, 120 mile round trip commute job and got a different job 12 miles away. I didn't need hundreds of miles range between once-a-week fillups. 10kWh (25% to 85% of the 16 kWh battery, that's all GM allowed to be used)...

Which US spec TDI with a few mods achieves the greatest MPG typically?

Within the conditions of the thread title (US Spec, few mods, greatest mpg) I'd say the A3 AHU Jetta is tops. That's based on a no-practice, one-time use of a borrowed car (Jetter's no mod "X" VIN 1999) for use in a fuel economy challenge put on by the AMEC. Mid-80's mpg for that event. B4 1Z...

    Rear caliper Piston won’t retract

Two considerations The retraction tool thread pitch might not match the thread pitch in the caliper. It might turn 'faster' than it 'pushes in'. My major-chain parts store kit doesn't match and I need to reset the press force on the tool's threaded sleeve after every turn of two of the piston to...

    Might buy a B5.5 with bad tranny…

My BHW wagon was a disappointment for me. The automatic was a major annoyance, but there were enough other design idiosyncracies (that's pronounced "idiots-and-crazies") to prompt me to sell it when I concluded I'd never get accustomed to them. But that's me, and that shouldn't matter to you...

    Bhw died, crank no start

I wouldn't say 'resolved'. Maybe isolated to one area, but not 'resolved'. That cam sensor might be fine, but the rotational POSITION OF THE CAM relative to where it ought to be might be incorrect. Before replacing the sensor confirm that the cam is timed correctly. A jumped tooth might cause...

Won’t rev past 1800 in neutral.

BEW and BHW PDs don't have that rev limit when not in gear (or when not in drive). I would not suspect the BRM PD to have such.

5th gear vibration in shifter while off throttle

Off 'throttle'? as in slight engine braking? Not while maintaining speed on level, not while accelerating, just during 'coasting' in gear? Diminished when coasting in gear at slower road speed (might also be diminish coasting from 20% to 30% faster road speed)? How about same road speed, but...

West Michigan Fall TDI GTG - Oct. 14, 2023

Luke Combs vs. Kookie's comb https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kookie,_Kookie_(Lend_Me_Your_Comb). Yes, I remember "77 Sunset Strip"... regarding October: I'm looking at camping sites in the area. update: I won't be in attendance. Other plans have been made for me.

Won’t rev past 1800 in neutral.

Apparently the wheel speed difference while in neutral is too great and causes the ECU to activate the traction control torque limit. ;) Even with zero boost the load in neutral should be so low that nearly full red-line rpm should be possible. I don't suspect boost based on an 1800 rpm limit in...

    VW Touran TDI

I'm more impress with how LITTLE use these get. I selected the oldest and the newest, conveniently the most and the fewest miles as well, then determined the average miles per year. blue 1.9: 18 years, 7 months (18.6 years) 9,340 miles per year black 2.0: 3 years, 3 months (3.25 years) 4,680...

BEW intermittent Squeal between 1600 rpm to 2000 rpm

In my case the squeal was the turbo bearings. I ignored it because it was brief and cleared up each time. I then ignored it when the duration was longer because it cleared up each time. Then I ignored it when it didn't stop squealing. And then the squealing stopped when the bearing finally...

    Confused on front brake rotors.

Conservation of momentum, keeping top speed closer to trip average speed, was a key in getting good fuel mileage. I am surprised the B4, specifically the TDI, didn't have rear drums (like the A3) due to drums offering less drag with brake pedal released.
