What is worse for the 01M...city driving or highway?

My understanding is that more wear occurs with high temperatures inside transmission. I recently contacted ZF about fluid change in my car and they said to cut intervals by about 30% if vehicle is driven hard or at high speeds. And btw, that was for a car that supposedly comes with lifetime...

That is true but only in North America. I'm not sure about rest of the world but in Europe E9x 330d, which is equivalent of 335d in NA market, was offered with manual gearbox. I'm not sure about European 335d but I don't see why not. Also, someone has swapped transmission in 335d here in states...

    What markets are available...

What exactly do you mean by structurally not in good shape? I just sold my 2000 Jetta with similar mileage to yours for almost $2k. That car was rusting badly being always driven in a rust-belt. Buyer said he doesn't care about body, he just wanted good mileage and reliability. If that's your...

    MK4 ALH timing belt

Just what STDOUBT said plus the fact that most shops may not warranty their job/repairs if you bring your own replacement parts. TB is not that hard but requires time, patience and a lot of knowledge so read those instructions few times and see if you're up for it. Good kuck Sent from my PH-1...

    2014 golf sportwagon

My rule of thumb when I get a new to me used car is to change all of the vital fluids and filters as well as visual inspection of everything. So I'd say change engine oil and filter, transmission fluid and filter, also brake fluid, since most folks never do that one. I would also check coolant...

Faster than TDI is an understatement. I went head to head with one in my e46 m3 and we were even passed 100 mph. It was slightly modified, I think stage II with downpipe and intercooler pushing about 330 hp to the wheels. But even stock is pretty wild. Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk

I think BMW focused to much on comfort with F chassis cars and after much criticism they decided to move back towards what they used to call Ultimate Driving Machine with Gxx cars. It is an improvement over previous generation. I've driven both 535d's, with and without adaptive suspension, they...

I would like to hear what other BMWs have you driven before to make that comparison? According to every car/auto magazine/publication Fxx series BMWs are one of the worst bunch when it comes to handling. For those that are looking for a F30, F31 or F10 chassis and like sporty handling find one...

    ABS sensor bad?

Yes, they can go bad. I think I've replaced them all when I had my 2000 Jetta. If you get the cheap stuff expect it to go bad again in near future, don't ask how I know. I must've replaced three of those on one corner over the time I had my car. Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk

Don't forget something as simple as bleeding diesel lines after fuel filter replacement so one does not have to crank it for extended time period causing high pressure pump to run without any lubrication. Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk

this doesn't make sense - OD rollback 2001 Golf TDI

Let's not forget we're talking about a 20 year old vehicle. If it was exposed to salt during winter then I wouldn't be surprised that it rusts and E-brake doesn't function, I wouldn't be surprised if it had other issues because of salt exposure. Also, where I live DMV doesn't record mileage...

ISTA. Compared to vcds I believe it's much better tool. It actually guides you through the diagnostic and repair steps, something I've never had in vcds Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk

We all wish we had better selection of diesels here in America, but because of EV cult that's not gonna happen anytime soon, if at all. Sounds good, let me know if you have any questions [emoji106] Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk

Few years ago I swapped everything from e46 M3 into 4-door e46. It took about a month. I took a month off from work to do this project. Keep in mind that I only kept body and glass on the four door, everything else is from M3. It took me about three or four days just to swap all the electrical...

Look for a download link, I had a friend send me one but no longer have it. Then get a cable, I got one from either eBay or Amazon. It's a pain to set it up first time but there are plenty of videos and articles on how to do it. It is a great tool to have, saves time and money as well. Sent...

For those that are planning on changing transmission fluid in their BMWs. I contacted ZF in regards to what fluid should be used in ZF HP8 transmission and was told that both, ZF8 as well as ZF9 fluids are perfectly fine to use and mix in those transmissions. Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk

    Egr and catalytic converters delete

Yeah, I know. I don't know what's the difference between removing it and stopping its function. One thing I can say is when I stopped it's function in my ALH the engine couldn't come up to operating temperature on a cool spring morning after 70+ mile drive. Not sure if that was the only cause...

    Egr and catalytic converters delete

Not sure about egr but cat is easy, just remove it and replace with a straight pipe. Also, if you have vcds you could just reprogram it so it doesn't open anymore which I believe should act in the same way as if it was removed. Sent from my PH-1 using Tapatalk
