Hopefully useful info on lubricity loss in low sulfur diesel and replacement options. Due to date of research, effect on DPT not part of study/results which is wild card. Good news is that Bio is authorized by VW and best lubricity...
You are correct sir, I stand corrected on the injector type. I also commute to VA from MD and due to much flatter terrain am getting the 44.9 to date. Waaaaaayyyyy better than my 3/4 ton Silverado 6.0 where I was filling up every other day!
Thanks for that correction, interesting in that I would think that piezo would be higher tech, but possibly not needed with adblue system and hopefully equates to reliability.
You are correct, I do rely on the computer read out to fill, but is hard to reconcile why only takes 16 gal when "empty". I purposely filled to top of neck (couple of inches down but could see the static level when done) to see how much fuel was left to compare to compter readout and my avg mpg...
I have read that the better performance and mileage of the 12 Passat is due to the piezo injectors and adblue emmission equipment. VW was able to tune for better performance due to the injectors (multiple shots per injection cycle) and urea cleansing of nitrogens from exhaust. It follows that...
Considering my age which I wont disclose, and the number of vehicles and pieces of equipment (spark and compresssion) I have owned over the years and no issues with failures in any due to good maintenance I asked the question on the NEW TDI because of piezo injectors/adblue/emmissions equipment...
Guess I should have been more clear and indicated that I liked the compression braking feature but never the less, still lulled into thinking it's a conventional auto. In congestion it is useful/convenient to stay out of the brakes. Also getting better by the day of using the manual position to...
I hear you and have read that the initial oil fill from the factory is "special" and is formulated to provide for proper break-in over 10k. I can accept that premise but find it hard to accept that the initial fill is some special formulation. Accepting the initial fill stays in for 10k don't...
I have had no issues as key is to fill slowly after nozzle clicks off the first time from auto fill. The foam does not last that long. I can easily top to fill neck if I like. Have noticed that when the low fuel light comes on and estimated range left is under 50 miles the tank will only take...
Have had my 12 Passat TDI/SEL (DSG) for three weeks now. Averaging 44.5 with commute split between local roads (mid 30's) and highway/interstate (high 40's and more) giving me the 44.9 to date. Hoping that will eventually exceed current mileage once broken in.
Found sources for filters, oil, adblue and ready to do my own changes as do not like the thought of going 10k between changes on 5 qts of oil. Mine was black after 1200miles. To my question, on this new engine, does anyone know with certainty whether the drain plug washer is reusable or needs to...
I ordered the DSG due to stop and go traffic issues of my commute. Great tranny, was hard to get used to compression braking as you quickly are lulled into thinking it is an auto by virtue of how well it works. BUT, if you like shifting and have no traffic conjestion/stop and go concerns then do...
mobil 1
Mobil 1 has the ESP spec oil for the newest TDI's (12 Passat). Conforms and formulated to meet 507 spec. Found distributor who sells for $42/case of 6 qts.
