West Michigan Fall TDI GTG - Oct. 14, 2023

Hi Kirk, It’s been quite a few years and I’m not sure if you remember me, but I would like to tentatively RSVP to this GTG. I haven’t had a tdi for a long time, but my bro who lives in CT just picked up a 2012 Golf tdi and he may come back for a visit that weekend. If he comes along, then my bro...

    Fuel Tank Capacity?

Definitely keep those bits handy in case your HPFP fails and you need take it back to VW for the extended warranty. If they find it removed they would likely deny any warranty coverage.

I'd like to know if anyone uses the following and why

I do recommend additive to ensure adequate lubricity and water mitigation. I wouldn’t use any of these additives listed above in a tdi, unless you have a means of draining water from your fuel filter. This limits tdi and most modern diesel autos to using an emulsifier additive. I plan on...

Here’s a video by LiquiMoly showing the diesel purge procedure on a TDI common rail.

    Optilube for 2009+ TDI Engines

I've been looking at the OptiLube products and will not be using them because they are demulsifying water as opposed to emulsifying. Same goes for Stanadyne, Hotshots & Howes additives. Water and lubricity seem to be main issues with the HPFP failures. I'm trying to find a product that can both...

    demulsifier vs dispersant

Pardon the thread resurrection. I'm getting back in to using additives after several years of ignoring the issue. (In TX I had access to high cetane and biodiesel to help with lubricity- so I got lazy about additives), Per my above post from years ago, Power Service DFS (white bottle) used to...

Sound Off on Current Diesel Price

I paid $3.86 about 2 weeks ago here in mid-Michigan. Filled up Monday and it was at $4.20. Same station yesterday was at $4.30. Anyone know what is going on? All three fillups mentioned were at the same Mobil station.

fuel lubricity data- with and without additives.

Revisiting after now becoming more aware of the CP4 HPFP issues. My BMW 535d has one. They extended the warranty to 10y/120k mi, but I'm over 180k mi now. My bro just bought a 2012 Golf tdi that is also just over the 120k mi mark, so he missed out on any VW warranty coverage. He saw some debris...

Thanks for the quick reply! He just picked up the car two weeks ago and changed the fuel filter this past weekend. He took a photo of the top of the filter cartridge after pulling the top off. There appeared to be some very light and small particulate on top of the filter cartridge. Any advice...

Hi all, It's been awhile since I posted. I now have 181k mile on my 2014 535d xDrive and it is still running great. I'm still very happy with this vehicle. I recently made a 2 day trip from Michigan down to Lexington to visit my daughter and ran there and back on one tank of fuel- 773 miles...

Congrats on your milestone. I have a 2014 535d xDrive too. I've been receiving notices from BMW for the EGR. My local dealer has the parts in stock, so I'm debating having this done. The car runs fine, so I'm not keen to fix something that hasn't yet broken. Have you had this done proactively...

    Timing belt Lifespan (miles)?

I would call it poetic justice for your timing belt to snap at 80001 miles. You're out of your element on this site, which caters toward people who enjoy these cars and caring for them- and don't share your "cars are appliances" viewpoint.

Breaking News: New VAG 504.00 & 507.00 standards

If this oil isn't rated for diesel, then you shouldn't use it. Use any 5W40 for an ALH. I've never seen one that isn't appropriate for that engine. As for filters, I don't remember what the Mahle/Mann/Hengst cartridges were rated, but 93% sounds pretty low.
