Coasting strategy... Ha!
I leave in gear when I know I can get to the next objective without more fuel.
I coast out of gear when I can take advantage of down hill acceleration or have extended flat approaches to stop signs.
Help?
Hey Matt 12.2 so has a gallon in reserve. Which is consistent with what folks have said the MFI does
The below pic is my last few fill ups. This tank was, as all bests are, a confluence of happy circumstance.
1, warmer (actually hot) weather,
2, two RTs to boston (figure 110 each way) with...
Wow thanks. I do have the 15 golf TDI not used to having to specify NOT the wagon. I just want a bike rack and a small trailer to take trash to the dump so it does not need to be heavy duty but I know Curt does not have one yet I will let you know if one of the options you all surfaced works...
Sinister.
My situation is unique. I have a long backroad commute 45-50 and I don't do much around town driving. My all-in mileage is now ~53 mpgs I think the key is that I am almost never in traffic and nearly never have 5 mile trips. Look for Gretchen TDI on Fuelly.

Not a perfect match but I have a 13 Passat and a 15 golf...
Wankel... Diesel prices are in free fall right now. My nearby station was at 3.34 two days ago and just dropped to 2.99. The gap between diesel and RUG is near all time highs at 90 cents and you are right, heating season combined with the export market have been supporting the market. 1.25...
The Fuelly data is so so bad. About 1/3 of the 15'golfs listed as gas are model "TDI" others are listed as manual are SEL. Features we know are mutually exclusive. Hopefully a future version will have you enter in a vin and the site will know what model it represents to prevent these types of...
