    Locked inside my car!!

MY comment was also for clarity, in case Mod's move it to correct forum, so people giving remarks don't confuse mk5 golf owners, because THAT does have a emergency escape... and if they don't move thread it stands for posterity. (Stars? You love me, you REALLY loooooove me!!)

    Locked inside my car!!

Under his avatar, he has a 2005.5 (MkV) Jetta....same as listed in his sig line... Therefore no wagon, and not a Golf. I'm not explaining how to escape all VW's, just answering his question about his model and year. What i left unsaid, is what i did not say, fair enough? But yes, mk5 golf's...

    Head condition @ 321K miles

I'm not TELLING you timsch, I'm asking the experts for clarification for myself.... Most times I've seen a stripe like this across a bucket, it's meant a cam strike/valve strike or low oil.... and I've noticed MOST of your lifters have this stripe across the middle, and the 1 bucket that...

Timing belt job - rotating engine by hand but apparently hitting valve. How did I screw this up?

spring steel is pretty tough and the square insert is what, brass? its a flat spring, locked end inside and the outside end goes into the tab a vise could deform the assembly preventing motion with clamping force that, a 10-14mm nut cannot physically do.... adding thermal expansion and...

Timing belt job - rotating engine by hand but apparently hitting valve. How did I screw this up?

yep, that's how the write-up says to do.. Without the camshaft sprocket counter-hold tool, probably cam sprocket slipped on the cam.... a small error of adjustment degree there is doubled when turning the crankshaft... since crank turns twice per camshaft rotation and the ALH is extremely...

Timing belt job - rotating engine by hand but apparently hitting valve. How did I screw this up?

Winner! yep, if cam sprocket was tightened prior to tensioning the belt that's the problem, especially without camshaft holding tool...which is NOT the locking plate.... locking plate is not enough for cam sprocket alignment relative to piston motions

Timing belt job - rotating engine by hand but apparently hitting valve. How did I screw this up?

also, if you ARE getting valve to piston contact, you SHOULD be able to determine which cylinder is hitting by watching which camshaft lobes are actuating the lifter on a specific certain cylinder, eh? When you feel the bind, stop, check the camshaft lobes/lifter contact... Now checking the...

Timing belt job - rotating engine by hand but apparently hitting valve. How did I screw this up?

Im pretty sure you pulled the CAMSHAFT off, not the crankshaft, eh? When everything is 'without belt' they should all be easily enough aligned with all index's camshaft locks with plate/head /slot union IP has locking pin....leaving only Crank to TDC mark on flywheel.... hope your IP isn't in...

Alt pulley intermittent freewheeling in clockwise rotation?

Autozone has a battery/load alternator tester as well...It might say, alternator failing......bad regulator.....bad battery... It is easy enough to replace regulator while it's on the car...bad diodes do funny things to voltages...(call for/excite alt. etc) how many miles?

Alt pulley intermittent freewheeling in clockwise rotation?

check belt tensioner pulley to make sure it spins free.... If pulley on tensioner locks and unlocks, wont that cause the alt pulley to freewheel then release, repeatedly? I know a bad tensioner pulley will make the belt jumpy...with impending failure of doom..... trying to recall the belt...

    Headliner adhesive that works?

Please @KrashDH (lighten up Francis) @Nuje (Calm down, Beavis) describe these crashes you were in You know, the ones where you impacted the roof? (cause i've only heard hammers and shovels instead of how yourself or your loved ones hit the roof's interior for whatever reason?) or even better...

    Headliner adhesive that works?

WOWW!! You guys can go back to metal dashboards, unpadded steering wheels, metal glovebox lids.....for all anyone cares. If you only got 2.4 inches of swing to that shovel, i would prefer the one with foam on it. 2.4 inches is the distance from the top of my head to the roof in my mk4. Your...

    Headliner adhesive that works?

The headliner is foam for a specific reason. When you flip the car, (or wild roll, launch of car, high energy/velocity event, etc) the headliner provides a 'soft' cushioned depth of material to dampen the impact spike of your crown(top of skull) to the roof. Get it? It's a HEAD-liner...
