I got the Dynamic EGR (by Malone) tune only, no stage anything and hardware intact, last November and I haven't had an icing / no start event this winter. It happened multiple times the previous two years (since I bought the car) so this is a relief. Hopefully not premature, as it's still kind...
Last fall, I was in Grand Marais, MI at a place called Bayshore Market. Their one diesel pump has a "typical" gasoline-sized nozzle which does not trip the mechanism that unlocks the filler inlet. So I felt around in there with my fingers and then used a pen in to hold it open. It worked and...
Just drove 400+ miles and didn't get to hand calculate mpg because I was late and already had enough fuel, but...
The car said I averaged only around 35 mpg. Outside temps were mid 20's F and had a 15 mph crosswind, headwind for part of it. My speed probably averaged high 70's mph.
Coolant...
I just got the Malone dynamic egr and I'm keeping my dpf. I'm hoping it will help preserve my dpf. I noticed better mpg during a test drive but haven't driven it any appreciable distance since then. There is more exhaust smell, I guess the cat isn't able to react with all of it.
I don't have...
Dropped the car off to get the timing belt service done (@133k), and oil change, and the N280 valve replaced. It was diagnosed a while ago as being faulty with a slight leak from it. I saw there was a TSB but I was past the warranty, unfortunately. So I opted to just have the system recharged...
I flashed Malone dynamic egr. No other tunes/mods. I noticed two things that I had read about and was looking for so it may be confirmation bias, but I guess they make sense: The throttle response is a tiny bit faster in D, and the exhaust smell is a little stronger when idling after it's...
Aaaaand.. VAGDPF doesn't work with my CJAA. I knew my engine wasn't listed but I was hopeful it would work with one of the selected engine groups. Tried them all a few times, no joy :(
Dang it
Anyone have a Malone Dynamic EGR tune by itself, without any of the "stage" tunes? It seems like it's meant to be an add-on option, but I'm wondering if it alone would make sense to prolong the life of my DPF. I suppose it'd be better (than stock) for the engine, too...?
Ordered an OBD dongle so I can use VAGDPF to determine the ash load and get an idea of its remaining life. It was replaced at 107k miles; I'm at 133k.
Timing belt/water pump service is past due so I'm getting quotes on that and plan on having done asap.
It's dropping into the 20's F the next couple of nights and it reminded me to make a lower grille cover. I got some cardboard on there for now but will use it as a template for a better one. Or I may just wrap it in duct tape and hope it lasts the season :)
Looks like a really nice trip! Thank you for posting. I'm going up that way in a month and will google some of the places that you mentioned.
I'll also be cruising in my wagon with a roof rack. Heading towards Thunder Bay from Kansas City and up over Lake Superior, and then back through the...
The TDI guy I found that will do a delete also quoted the TB for 800 compared to the dealer's 1400. Not sure that includes the water pump and other stuff like the dealer, but will find out. I'm planning on doing all of this before winter, due to the intercooler condensation thing that happens.
