I can attest to never seeing such filter deformation before and I've done every one of the oil changes except for one (done at dealer) since new with this being the first time I've used FRAM. I am mindful that correlation does not equal causation and there could be underlying causes, only way to...
The concerning part is what’s not visible in the pictures, on the inside it’s pretty much just filter pleat edge to edge so how could any oil flow through? While the MANN filter looks cheaper and fits a touch looser you can make out the reinforcing strips on the inside.
Also, hi P2b!
I got into a bunch of videos lately showing the poor quality of Fram filters and recalled that i had put one in my mk7 TSI Golf last oil change as it was readily available at Canadian tire. I had a nagging feeling of concern and decided to check on it and found it to be fairly collapsed such...
I can’t speak for the mk7 clutch but getting a single mass on my mk4 was a big mistake; harder to shift and i attribute the first gear synchro blowing to the heavier pressure plate. The dual mass is vastly superior unless you think yourself a racer. Kinda sucks that’s what you put in, up to you...
Extended use is a concern for sure, I wonder what effect would running the switchable oil pump in the high pressure mode have on things?
In any case, if I recall correctly, the ALH started life on 15w40 and was switched to 5w40 only due to turbocharger oil feed plugging issues: quite a big drop...
I've definitely seen comments on how the lower viscosity oil is bad for the engine, I've also seen others saying how fuel economy went up with it. Nothing really suggesting wear is higher (with any proof really). The neat part is that this engine has a switchable oil pump and if you want, can...
Check if a hose burst or something, I’m having a hard time imagining a water pump leaking so drastically and not being in a state that would have already killed the engine. If it’s actually leaking where the timing belt would be, then that’s quite serious such that i wouldn’t drive it.
let us...
Hi friends,
Been doing a lot of searching on here and all over the web regarding the new 0W30 oils, and i heard good things about the pennzoil platinum gas to liquid stuff that’s on sale at Canadian Tire until tomorrow, picked up four jugs on sale for $39.99 CAD each.
I drive a fairly short...
Sorry, should clarify that the washer was still used, the o-ring was a good if not perfect size to fit in between the drain plug and the washer which filled that gap when you tightened it down.
When i had a Jetta with the ALH, I’d take the old o-ring from the bottom oil filter cap (on the end of the plastic rod) and put that on the drain plug, worked wonders to prevent leaking. My 2015 doesn’t leak though so I’ve never had to bother on this one
Any input folks? Just hoping someone could measure the diameter of the coolant heater inlet/outlet during an oil change and let me know. If not I’ll measure it next time I can and post here. Thanks
My intent is to add in a coolant pump for more even heating, just wanted to confirm that it's 19mm hoses that run to it. Thanks!
There's an OEM version that goes for about $350 CAD... but i can get the pump for $80CAD and don't mind bodging a little.
