    MKIV Clutch problems

Hoping to tap into the collective wisdom. Background: I had my original dual-mass clutch replaced at about 375K miles; I had to stomp the clutch all the way to the floor to shift. My reasonably reliable mechanic (mech#1) replaced it with a single mass. I had some subsequent problems (shifting...

    Clutch problem

This is my third post today. I've had my '03 Jetta TDI since '05 and put 290K largely trouble free miles on it; its been utterly dependable and a joy to drive...until lately. Now I've had troubles...a turbo oil line break (twice, but not raising that here) and clutch difficulties...it's...

    Eval of A4, A5 & A6 TDIs Wanted

I currently have an '03 Jetta TDI, but a Bad Thing (oil line to Turbo broke) happened (twice), and I have to consider possible replacement options should my well-appreciated (and depreciated) car go down for the count. The Question: what are the differences and relative strengths/weaknesses of...

    Warning: Turbo oil line break

Thanks...every other week I take my wife to an infusion 90 miles to the south in NYC. I upgraded my AAA road service to the Premium level that gives you three 100 mile tows in a year. Will see what happens. At this point, I will just continue on...the BlueBook value is so low that doing...

    Warning: Turbo oil line break

A cautionary tale: At 297K miles, the oil line to the turbo broke about 20 miles from home. I limped home by stopping every ten miles and topping off the oil. I got the line replaced by Euronutz near Saugerties, but it took them a while to order the part in. Everything was fine for a month or...

NYTimes: Price of Diesel, Which Powers the Economy, Is Still Climbing

Gasoline is up 11%, diesel over 40%, due to: Closed refineries Being mandated as a lightening blend to bunker oil used by ocean-going ships Russian embargo winter use of #2 fuel oil exports to Europe and Latin America...

Massive oil leak, perhaps at turbo

Oil leak appears to be coming from somewhere around the turbo., perhaps where the oil line joins it. Alas, being 75 and <sigh> 300 pounds, getting under the car is not a joy. Seen from above, can't see where the leak is...somewhat tucked under the engine. From below, you are under the oil...

Massive oil leak, perhaps at turbo

4 quarts gone in 10 miles, leaving a line (at low speed) on the pavement. Way too much (I assume) to be some gasket...such weep, perhaps a lot, but not nearly a stream. Any ideas what it could be? '03 Jetta, ALH engine, nearly 300K miles. Radiator fluid is clear. Troubleshooting suggestions?

    Discounted TDI oil locator thread

The man says in https://forums.tdiclub.com/index.php?threads/what-oil-do-i-use-read-first-before-asking.158788/ that C[H,I,J,K]-4 qualifying standard oil is fine for rotary distributor pump engines which are 2003 and before (if in doubt, read the post). This Rotella qualifies. I've been using...

Question about replacing an A4 brake cable with the Heavy Duty version

Thank you. A Joe Friday report: Just the facts, ma'am.

Question about replacing an A4 brake cable with the Heavy Duty version

I couldn't find it, and the video doesn't show it. I think the dingus is not what IDParts lists it as, but the plastic clip that holds the aluminum tube you feed the brake cable into.

    Parking brake cable upgrade

I have looked at all this but don't see any answer to this question about one part of the Heavy Duty brake cable stuff from ID Parts: Where everything goes seems straightforward with one exception, the Emergency Parking Brake Cable Clip For Rear Axle (A4 Heavy Duty), a little plastic dingus...

Question about replacing an A4 brake cable with the Heavy Duty version

I have watched a YouTube showing replacement of the standard duty cables and want to think that I can pull that off, God willing. But because I've had these replaced at least 3x over the years, I sprang for the Heavy Duty one from ID Parts, hoping that will last better. Where everything goes...

Why is there that block that keeps you from filling an A4 fuel tank completely

There's that little tab inside left of the filler hole....if you press it down with the nozzle while filling the tank, you can fill the tank all the way up....if you don't, the tank is short 2 gallons. What is it supposed to achieve? I have always over-ridden it and never had a problem. Is...

Problem: Turbo kicking in and out with steady load around 85%...***?

Though right now, they're repaving in spots....usually northbound in the morning and southbound in the afternoon....I suppose because of the NYC metro traffic. I've been stuck bumper-to-bumper twice for 15-20 minutes...and because the TP winds through sparsely populated areas at times, there can...

Problem: Turbo kicking in and out with steady load around 85%...***?

The problem has gone away after hard driving and Italian tuneups....so I guess the VNT vanes were sticky. Since I posted the problem I've had to drive my wife 100 miles to NYC for her one a week infusion treatment, 3 weeks out of 4. Driving south of the Taconic (such a wonderful driver's...

Thanks benmarks.....having the part #s helped. www.jimellisvwparts.com, a vw dealership, had them for $7....with $5 ship., total $19. Which is acceptable for the real thing. Now to go to my local dealership and see if I can get the parts guy to match the price and avoid the shipping....
