Water in spare tire well - Sunroof drains?

I also had water coming in at the boot vent grilles. I replaced those, and applied some sealant around the edges. That fixed that leak. I don't believe the bumper cover was ever really intended to be water tight The water you're seeing that you have circled is likely running down the C pillars...

Water in spare tire well - Sunroof drains?

Another update: Water is collecting again in the spare tire well. I have heard that the fuel fill door seal can leak rain water into the trunk. If so, are there any writeups on how to replace this seal? It's the one possible ingress point I haven't replaced or repaired My Passat currently has...

    Coolant leak

Great video. Thank you for uploading this, very helpful. I was advised to swap the bolts with the new assembly, so I have 4 on order. My heater core is clogged, so I was not liking the idea of replacing the coolant that would be flushed anyway. I hadn't thought about reusing the coolant, nice...

    Coolant leak

I'm not convinced the filter housing block seal is leaking on my NMS. I opted not to spray it down with brake clean since it is a plastic part and I was concerned about degrading the plastic. I did wipe down the cap, and drove the car again for a half hour. I then ran my finger along the...

So... Is it the Regen cycle that excessively heats the oil / coolant?

    Coolant leak

I have never changed the oil myself on my Passat, but I probably will from now on. That way I can blame myself for causing this assembly to fail. I wonder - would it be a good idea to use some kind of backup filter wrench on the housing to minimize the torsion flexing when torquing the oil...

    Coolant leak

I've found the OEM assembly cheaper at a few online outlets Example: https://www.jimellisvwparts.com/products/Volkswagen-VW/2014/Passat-TDI-SE-Sedan/Engine-Oil-Filter-Housing/11473106/03L115389H.html I also found a decent how-to video for the oil cooler assembly R&R:

    Coolant leak

I have an upcoming appointment for the heater core since cold air is now blowing out the passenger side vents with the heat on, so I may ask them to diagnose the oil cooler leak as well. Thanks for the suggestions

Water in spare tire well - Sunroof drains?

Update: the windshield shop ended up paying for a headliner replacement. While the headliner shop had the headliner out (they had to remove the front glass and the seats), they resealed the sunroof drain line joints. The leak has since stopped

    Coolant leak

Thanks Bob The last oil change was done by my local VW dealer almost a year ago. I was about 300 miles out from the next oil change when I noticed oil spots on my driveway, and then found the oil cooler assembly all wet with oil. So I don't think it was a tech spill that caused this mess. I...

    Coolant leak

I realize this thread is getting older, but I think I may have a leaking oil cooler / oil filter housing as well on my 2014 NMS. But mine looks to be just leaking oil at this point, but I'm not totally sure. What's giving me pause is the low miles (44k miles) and the oil seems to be covering the...

Water in spare tire well - Sunroof drains?

Update I had the back glass replaced today. The shop told me they didn't see any obvious signs of a leak during the swap. Then, they took it upon themselves to spray water onto the sunroof for about 20 minutes with "a lot of pressure" and lo and behold, water started staining the headliner...
