    5th gear loose on shaft

02b. I was able to get some of the slack out by adjusting the fork, but the gear is still loose on the shaft. It's quiet now, but not shifting well. Sometimes it shifts buttery smooth. Most of the time, though, it's hard to get into gear. With the engine running, and the clutch pressed, it...

    5th gear loose on shaft

Here's a video of the looseness. After removing the collar, T60, and washer, I found that the locking ring is not flush with the input shaft. I tried heating with propane and driving it on further, but there was no discernible movement. Link to image of the output shaft I assume I need to...

    5th gear loose on shaft

I've had a pretty noticeable rattle from my (supposedly rebuilt) transmission since I bought it from a member here back in 2017. I've put about 24,000 miles on it since, but it's recently gotten a lot louder. I originally chalked this up to clutch rattle, but it's become clear that it is more...

    FS: 130/150PD intakes

Hey, happen to have any EGRs to go along with a driver's side intake?

    Wanted: PD130 (driver's side) intake

Thanks! The EGR, or at least the appearance thereof, is probably the most important aspect really. Ironically, the van didn't have an EGR to begin with but I can't get it licensed without adding one to the swap. Apparently the efficiency increase and savings from not melting the thing down...

    Wanted: PD130 (driver's side) intake

In need of an PD130-style intake and EGR to accommodate a VNT turbo on an AHU head. Must face driver's side, and must include EGR & tube (although I don't need or want the cooler). I just have to pass visual emissions check. Please let me know a price shipped to 85022. Thanks

    Sad Day

What they actually did in our case was to call a Podunk used-car dealer in the middle of the desert, talk to the high-schooler secretary who answers the phone, and ask her if, say, $500 seems like a reasonable price for a '98 Beetle TDI. When we talked to her she said she told them she didn't...

    Would you run these pistons?

I stand in awe of your master-tech-ness and customer-interaction skills. Well done.

    Would you run these pistons?

Yeah, Kerma, sorry bud, but I don't do business with you specifically because of your attitude around here. Thanks for reenforcing that decision directly. If you thought that this was a joke thread and that your wife could provide an authoritative response maybe you should question your social...

    Sad Day

Not completely a B4, but I'm pretty sure we carry "Vehicle Replacement" insurance on the T4 Van. Our Beetle TDI was hit while parked a couple months after this thread was started by a drunk and his insurance company was completely and totally unethical in arriving at compensation. He had USAA...

    Would you run these pistons?

Thank you! If I would have had this information my engine would have cooling galleys (and maybe tapered rods) now. As it is, I just got new .5mm oversize AGR pistons (same as ALH) and followed Whitbread's advice on boring (0.0012 clearance) and it runs awesome.

    ALH injecion pump to AHU

Just one at the time, I still have some 1Z pumps and didn't know if I'd use them in the future. In hindsight, it would have been so cheap to just have both done it would have been worth it. Setup fees are the most expensive part.

    ALH injecion pump to AHU

Just as a tip, machining for the bracket was way, way cheaper when I bolted two brackets together to make the whole thing easy to clamp into a CNC mill (or whatever they use). Before I did that everyone in Phoenix looked at the oddly shaped bracket and either quoted me high enough to leave them...

    Broken down in Nebraska

P1248 is start of injection timing regulation. Timing is regulated by a valve allowing injection pump case pressure to modulate a piston inside the injection pump. The cause of this code is either no electrical connection to the N108 (unlikely) or lack of case pressure to actually move the...

What are people doing with the G72 IAT Sensor?

I did convert to 4-bar map, but used an internal sensor. The A4-style IAT sensors are compatible with the 68-pin ECU?

What are people doing with the G72 IAT Sensor?

Specifically for 1Z/AHU conversions (and maybe ALH?). I imagine in some swaps the stock intercooler piping can be used but when custom piping is fabricated how are you guys installing the G72 manifold air temperature sensor? I have 2.25" aluminum piping with a FMIC, and while this works great...

WTB: Early Starter Solenoid (West Michigan)

Looking for a starter solenoid for a '93 Eurovan. This is the same as the B4 Passat and (I think) the A3 Jetta. Does anyone have one laying around in the West Michigan area? Push-starting a van is no fun :)

Fuel cutoff solenoid doesn't kick on?

Have you removed the T68 plug and tested continuity from pin 53 to, first, the solenoid, and then from pin 53 to every connection in between? The ECU can be fine with the output stage mosfet blown, but I have never personally seen this. It would be a rather cheap fix if it was the case.

97 passat. Battery light staying on.

If you can find a set of brushes they're not hard to replace inside the alternator.

The Dreaded N109 - Fuel Cutoff Valve...

I imagine the current into a solenoid from the drain of a p-channel MOSFET is going to be less than a small lamp, but I could be wrong. The inductance from a coil certainly will be far more than a lamp filament. Either way, multimeters can be had for free from Horrible Freight, so whatever works.
