Chime In: Kerma Springs? Bilstein TC struts? OE? Advice needed for grandpa driver

Luckily I live in California and rarely drive through salted winter roads. My undercarriage looks great so far and I have 220k

Give me your recommendations for road trip locations.

So I'm actually two 5-year olds in a trenchcoat and I've always wanted to do a road trip from Poo Poo Point (Washington) to Pee Pee Island (Newfoundland) 🤡💩

Chime In: Kerma Springs? Bilstein TC struts? OE? Advice needed for grandpa driver

That's a great idea! I have never used FCP Euro so I'll have to check them out. I normally get everything from ID Parts. Their customer service is fantastic. I'm wondering if I try the Koni Special Actives and don't like them maybe I can return them for the Sachs. I'm not averse to a more...

Chime In: Kerma Springs? Bilstein TC struts? OE? Advice needed for grandpa driver

I was thinking about doing this setup! It looks like a full set of Koni Special Active struts/shocks is $600 :/ The OE struts/shocks are $250. Definitely a huge difference

Chime In: Kerma Springs? Bilstein TC struts? OE? Advice needed for grandpa driver

I bought the car used and as far as I can tell the ride has remained the same, so I don't have a point of reference to compare them to. I know I would like an "improved" ride if possible but without introducing too much stiffness. My front end seems to be sagging quite a bit so I'll definitely...

Chime In: Kerma Springs? Bilstein TC struts? OE? Advice needed for grandpa driver

Good to know! I don't want the car any lower as my front air dam/lip already scrapes on even a very mild driveway. I did notice the Kerma springs raise the ride height, which I wouldn't be opposed to! Do you think those springs would be too stiff for daily driving use?

How stiff is your clutch pedal?

I am running a South Bend Stage 2 clutch and my pedal is very light. Sitting in LA stop and go traffic isn't an issue at all for me

Chime In: Kerma Springs? Bilstein TC struts? OE? Advice needed for grandpa driver

Hi Fam, My Golf is in need of a suspension refresh and I'm researching options. It seems I've narrowed down my options to OE equivalent springs and struts, Kerma springs with either OE or Bilstein TC struts, or possibly H&R Sport springs. I'm also open to combinations of any of the...

    Special tool for struts?

How did the install end up going? I have to do this to my car soon and was wondering what people thought of the Kerma springs. Would you recommend them for someone who cares very little about "performance" but wants a comfy yet supportive spring? My cars springs are saggy and old so they need a...

I don't, I'm sorry. I'm still fairly new to the area

Best VW-only mechanics in the SoCal area?

Thanks for the info! I'll def check them out. I do have a good friend in Santa Barbara who is a German specialist and ASE Master tech. He owns Santa Barbara Autoworks and knows a few TDI experts, but I am trying to find someone closer.

Best VW-only mechanics in the SoCal area?

I'm looking as well. All those recommended lists are very old. I'm in Santa Monica and would love to know of a good VW specific diesel tech. I may have some costly turbo work coming up...

Subject: Where was Your Favorite Road Trip?

I worked outside Nome, AK during the summer and I'd agree that TDI's weren't common. I suppose it depends on what part of Alaska you are visiting, but in general it seems that ground clearance is your friend in Alaska. Very rough roads with rock chipped windshields almost inevitable. Not saying...

Real world numbers on a Kerma ECO tune + turbo?

I have a 2003 Golf 5 speed that is bone stock. Runs like a top but have noticed very high oil consumption over the last year or so. Will be getting it checked out in the next few months and in the event that I need a turbo, I was considering going with injectors and Kerma's ECO kit that comes...
