In my opinion, there are a lot better and cheaper options than kermas kit. There's really not much that comes with it for $2500.
For longevity, a Franko6 cam, a vnt17 turbo (even the stock one is fine for longevity) a light tune and I'd leave the egr stock.

You need to pull the cam.pulley because you can't get the timing correctly lined up without pulling it. The cam to gear is only taper fit. So you lock the cam and install the belt so the cam sprocket can slip, then when you get it set then you tighten it down.

Post a video. Sometimes the alternator clutch pulley will make a noise like a droning, or sometines it gets replaced with a gasser alternator without the clutch pulley. The 90 amp ones didn't come stock with them, but the 120 amp ones did.

Sounds very much like the stop screw adjustment problem. Its very common with them, but often the stop screw isn't adjustable anymore due to rust. Check this thread out and test it.
