    Disposing of diesel fuel

I know a metal scrapper who gets the stale old gas they drain out of gas tanks at the scrapyard, and burns it in his beat up old square body. I saw some of the stuff he had picked up once- it looked and smelled pretty awful, lol. He said his quality test was to pour a little out and see if it...

    #2 Diesel vs JetA1

Quite a lot of excess Jet A was blended into diesel stocks during the height of the COVID outbreak. Jet A is basically kerosene with a sprinkling of additives. I think a 95% jet/kero , 5% FAME biodiesel blend would be safe in even the less robust CP4 commonrail diesels, but probably wouldn't...

    real world EVs review

119 MPGe, not too shabby! Especially for cold weather operation. Expect that number to rise along with ambient temps.

    When to do glow plugs?

I wouldn't worry about the glow plugs until they start failing, but your car is due for a timing belt job if that hasn't already been done.

    #2 Diesel vs JetA1

Yeah, DPFs probably wouldn't like that. But a lot of that heavy equipment has a long service life- I'm sure there are quite a few still out there operating.

    #2 Diesel vs JetA1

I know some heavy equipment feeds used, filtered motor oil into the fuel system as a sort of continuous oil change. I assume there's a decent sized reservoir for fresh oil to keep everything topped up.

    #2 Diesel vs JetA1

Quite a lot of military vehicles are multi-fuel capable. For logistical reasons, pretty much all US main military vehicles (in theatre anyhow) these days run on JP8. They even have diesel dirt bikes/motorcycles that burn jet fuel. I'm not sure what, if anything, they do about lubricity...

    real world EVs review

Looks like the tax credits for American made EVs are having the desired effect. BEV sales were booming in January despite declining sales in the overall auto market...

    Disposing of diesel fuel

I bet there's somebody within a few miles that has a thirsty old V8 that would be more than happy to take it.

    Verdict on 0W30 oils?

It isn't bad in a hot climate either. It's a 30 weight oil, just like 5w30, 10w30, or straight 30 weight. These cars aren't pro mod dragsters making 3000 HP- they don't need a monograde 60 weight :). You're not going to shear it down over 10k intervals.

    #2 Diesel vs JetA1

No, Jet A , and all jet fuel has terrible lubricity- extremely dry. It is also substantially less energy dense than diesel fuel. I think jet a is low sulfur now too. I know heating oil and off-road diesel are. If you can get free jet fuel and want to use it in a diesel engine, I'd mix it with...

2015 MK7 Golf clutch bleed issues

It's a pretty well known problem. Most vendors have either stopped selling the 02Q smf kits(for TDIs), or have a disclaimer stating it will ruin the trans., lol. Sorry for your misfortune...

2015 MK7 Golf clutch bleed issues

The solid flywheel was a big mistake. It will destroy the synchro rings in your 02Q transmission within 10k-15k miles. It was ok on the older TDIs, but not on the '09+ models.

    Verdict on 0W30 oils?

It's the same viscosity at operating temp. as the 5w30 507. It just flows better in extreme cold. Ages ago people worried that oils with greater viscosity index (ie 0w30, 5w40, 0w40) were more susceptible to shear forces and viscosity breakdown over long intervals. That really isn't an issue...

    Verdict on 0W30 oils?

The Pennzoil and Mobil1 0w30 507 oils are of very high quality. No downside whatsoever vs. a 5w30 507 oil.

Anyone have experience with FCP Euro?

Yes, but the oil has a viscosity nonetheless, and the OE supplier of the oil to VW does specify viscosity when they sell the same product under their own label. It seems the viscosity for G 052527 is monograde 75 weight, and possibly also 75w80. Much like the official VW part # for the motor...

Anyone have experience with FCP Euro?

Yeah, I think a good 75w gear oil be it gl-5 or gl-4 should be fine. The Valvoline oil I mentioned earlier said it met both specs. This official looking Febi gear oil has the right part # and says GL-4 on the bottle...

Anyone have experience with FCP Euro?

Huh, that Fuchs Titan Sintofluid in the link is GL-4 and has the VW approval for the part # you mention.

Anyone have experience with FCP Euro?

Doesn't that call for a GL-4 mtf? I used a mix of Synchromesh and "synthetic" Valvoline 75w90 GL-4/GL-5 in mine with no ill effects. If I was patient enough to wait for delivery, I'd have used something like this...
