Seems like I asked one of those guys and he said he had no cooling issues with shutting it off.

Thank you. It's something I'm looking into currently, I didn't know if it was tied into cooling the back of the cylinders/head, would suck to cook the #4 cylinder.

Exactly, vcds reads the temp right there, so should be easy enough to check

Unfortunately I don't have any photos of mine (ALH/Toyota LJ78), but for the heater core I tee'd into the two hoses running to the oil cooler and capped the extra port on the back of the cylinder head. I get hot air within a few minutes of driving, and haver a temperature probe on the coolant exiting the head. The hottest I see is 195ºF occasionally.

I'm running ATF in my power steering system. I haven't had it on the road long, so time will tell, but its fine so far.

Regarding transmissions: If you can lay your hands on a 1996+ R150f there is a factory Toyota 5th gear set that drops right in and nets a 0.69:1 overdrive ratio. With 4.88 gears and 32" tires I am running 70mph at 2500rpm instead of nearly 3000rpm. Last I checked the gears were a little over $300.
