No excuse for ignorance: we promised Ukraine to guarantee their sovereignty when they gave away their nukes: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Budapest_Memorandum

    Diesel shortage.

I don't believe a word. You DO have a problem using oil. Iraq war was not to save a few bucks. It was to stop Saddam from controlling the world oil market. If we wanted the oil for the money spent on military we could have had it for much less on the open market. Besides, our obsession with...

    Diesel shortage.

I'm finding it difficult to pin down the actual monetary value of using a barrel of oil but must assume it creates much more wealth than it costs to extract and protect it. Dunno. Clearly alternatives to fossil fuels must also live in this reality. Most of us would rather not go back to the...

2014 tdi beetle reliability and mpg

Our 2004 NB TDI PD lasted 16 years of daily driving among several of my children and 160,000 miles. Seemed like everything was wearing out including brake system, air intake/turbo, electrical, body etc. It was time for pasture. The daughter that gave it up got herself a very nice 2020 Mazda 3.

TDIclub Secret Society of BMW Owners (SSBMWO)

I had a 335d with the sport suspension/wide rear tires and it didn't get much over 30 mpg. My 535d routinely gets 36-37 mpg on the display and is faster to boot. But I loved driving the 335d more - felt like a sports car vs luxury in the 5-er.

Electric vehicles (EVs), their emissions, and future viability

Exaggeration using made up counterarguments is what was offered, and was not equivalent to "clearly stated arguments." If so urgent, opposing a proposal to increase the market for used EV's, at least in theory, shows the true nature of their motivation wasn't global betterment, but Gore-ish self...

Electric vehicles (EVs), their emissions, and future viability

I'm sorry, but I called the messenger's bluff and would yours if I cared. No-one here expects EV's not to replace ICE to some extent and even to a large extent if its not economic suicide or freedom killing. Letting poor people benefit from free solar electricity, which would benefit towards...

Electric vehicles (EVs), their emissions, and future viability

Distillation into different length hydrocarbon units is always the first step and leads to various fractions that include gasoline and diesel. Cracking is making long chains into smaller more useful chains. Its ludicrous to think that economically creating longer chains from gasoline so as to...

Electric vehicles (EVs), their emissions, and future viability

Yeah I guess "20 years" is another one of your exaggerations. Enjoy the 2.1% EV penetration while we can still afford even that. Let the peasants eat cake - no free solar electricity in public places for you!!! Mazda is slowly electrifying but I would wager is still developing ICE's. The...
