HAHA! The TDI stills rules for fuel economy, even with a trailer. My Stage 2 GTI averaged just 21.7 mpg on last year's coast-to-coast trip while towing this trailer... There was a climbing stretch along I-15 from St. George, Utah where I averaged just 16 mpg! Let me say that the Golf's...

Thanks! I appreciate that! I didn't put a build thread here since there doesn't seem to be an appropriate place for it. But I did share my plan and SLOW progress in the "Teardrops and Tiny Travel Trailers" forum at https://www.tnttt.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=69973. This build took a LONG time...

Not a lot of room to swing a hatchet inside. But my Dewalt 4" circular saw would do the trick! It's a "back-of-the-mind" type of thing that would be more of a concern if I was camping with younger folks who like to prank. Short of malicious actions, I'm fairly certain that I could just...

Yes! Believe it or not, I considered adding a trap door for two reasons: 1) Extra escape path in case my rear door is blocked or jammed; 2) Someplace to lower my legs to make getting dressed a tad easier. The main reason I didn't do it is because the treated plywood was still moist from...

Thanks! I doubt it. There's what seems to be about 2-4 inches of clearance between the axle and frame, maybe less with a heavier load. However, I don't know how much that moves while underway... Even if it would fit, I think I'd rather just have it ride inside as a base for other cargo...

It's done! The MaxxFan, which is intended for RVs, moves so much air through my tiny trailer that 50% is still sufficient to blow quite a stream of air out of the screen opening in the teardrop door! :ROFLMAO: My onboard battery will run the fan at 50% for about 14 hours. I'm...

Nice! How much does that weigh?

HAHA! It could be a warm evening. The trailer has ventilation and insulation. With the teardrop window open, I'm hopeful that sleeping in there will be as tolerable as sleeping in a tent. We'll see. As for videos, I have a small playlist HERE. It features seven videos that cover all portions of...

Nicely Done! I resurrected my want to add a camper door to the back of my 4x6' cargo trailer to complete my "sleeper" setup. Ham radio "Field Day" is coming soon and I want to spend the night at the venue. With the hard deadline approaching in just two weeks, I decided to get moving and make...

Amateur (ham) Radio in a TDI

Thanks, @bustNfuel ! I quickly decided to move the Orion DC-DC Charger for better ventilation. It now sits in a more visible, but better-breathing spot: I find myself itching to upgrade my HF radio. I like the IC-7100, but not its bulky display unit. I like the larger display of the FT-891...

Amateur (ham) Radio in a TDI

Big upgrades lately! As I use my ham radios more, I find myself needing to start and idle the engine to keep the starter battery charged. A few times this year, I have accidentally left something running overnight and came out to a dead car. OOPS! BTW, this SuperCap 2 jump starter is awesome...

Amateur (ham) Radio in a TDI

Nice work! I couldn't recall if I had shared my Mk7's ham radio install, not in this thread, anyway. Here's a quick overview, if there's such as a thing with my car: :p It's not a TDI, but may give some ideas for some of you... With a steering wheel desk for hand-logging and a passenger seat...

JoyJoy, I am using all-seasons. I'm currently on Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+, which is a discontinued high-performance all-season tire. They are superseded by the Pilot Sport All-Season 4, which is reportedly a good improvement over the A/S3+. They're said to be among the best in snow, FOR A...

Some photos from my recent 7600-mile trip to CA. Yes, I did it again, this time with a cargo trailer instead of the utility trailer... Tail of the Dragon... Flagstaff, AZ... Cool Springs, AZ just a few hours later... Death Valley; "SEA LEVEL" sign in the mountain behind the car...

Hello, I would have loved to use a plug-in adapter like that on my 17 GTI! ETrailer.com still does not show that adapter to be compatible with my car. Can you link the model that he used in case I saw the wrong part? Regardless... I didn't want to splice or cut into my factory wiring...
