rforce, if the scratch isn't through the clear coat, it will compound out. If you can "feel" the cut through the paint, don't try to compound it.

Try using a toothpick to apply the paint. The applicator that comes with the touch up stick will apply the paint too thick. Fine layers are better than one thick glob.

Bob, I found a place that does engine conversions including TDI. http://www.fastforward.ca/ I think that would be a nice setup, and the older Vanagons are going pretty cheap right now.

For what its worth, when I built Toyota Corollas in the late '80's the car was given the VIN at the start of assembly, and when it came out of the paint shop and entered assembly, the various body panels started to have the anti-theft stickers (which had the VIN on them) attached throughout...

I think the consensus has been that the stock VW part is the best quality. Others like Mann and Fram seem to be missing an inner paper liner that the OEM has. Scott

mjbach, I had the glow plug relay changed twice on my NB when the check engine light kept coming on from new. After that they ended up changing a main wire harness. The car should drive fine during your wait. Good Luck, Scott.
