  • Senor OH - - - IIRC you - in recent times - have indicated a positive take on the VW EA211 1.4L turbo 4 cylinder - have I got that right?

My 2009 Jetta (which I bought new) TDI has the dpf light on. Took it to the dealer and they could not get it to regen. Want to sell me a new DPF for $4000. They say I can drive it with the light on but I think that's bull. Can't find anyone to delete it. Advice?
Just recently joined the forum after lurking for about a month, I am new to Diesel ownership and was wondering if you wouldn't mind me pinging you every once in a while when panic mode sets in with questions about issues I start to experience?
for example, engine sounds fine but the DPF light just popped up yesterday. Do I need to rush this in to a shop?
Brian, you currently have my car in your shop for a power loss issue. John mentioned to me that you thought it might be the MAP sensor. Also you have said in the past that these rarely fail, it could be a wiring harness issue. That got me thinking, this car sits outside a lot, and I have had issues with squirrels chewing through the wiring. You might want to consider that possibility before you dig too deep.

I barely will have a chance this month to pick up a shovel, so I doubt I'll be doing much digging.

Got a quick second this afternoon, found the subharness to the MAP had rubbed through against another harness, and that allowed moisture in which caused the copper strands inside to corrode away. Need to make room to splice in a new pigtail and hopefully that's all it is. Luckily it was easily found.

Thanks Brian, hope that's all it takes.

Nope. CKP sensors are a common issue on the EA288 engines, though.
I have a stock 2015 Jetta TDI SEL with 175,000 miles. I bought it new. I had the stealership do the dieselgate mod years ago. This car has been a total nightmare since I bought it. My current issue was an intermittent random engine hesitation for a about a week with no codes. Now I have a flashing glow plug light and CEL then limp mode. Scanner says:
Brian, my JSW that you put some parts in for me about a month ago has been running great! Like a new car! My question is, I am thinking of getting the Whitbread CP4 metering valve bypass kit. Do you think it is a worthwhile preventative measure for the CJAA? Thanks, Hal

I would not mess with that, no.

I have a 2013 tdi 6spd sportwagon PS Red light on no assist Restart back on happened a few times til restart wouldn't fix ps problem. Red wheel all associated esp and Trac control lights on zero assist.

Ordered a used PS rack from salvage after reseting plugs checking power noting can bus resistance was at least right (don't have o scope) salvage Sent me a rack for a 2016 new beetle looked same.

Installed rack, PS light now yellow, power steering is back but can't set steering angle sensor. My aftermarket reader would not.

So I went to a shop that specializes in euro... Nope... Went to vw told them what I did.. They tried 4 times and said it was not recognizing the steering module. Recommended exact year and model rack.

Before I pull this thing and return it was hoping to see if you can shed any light on it. Is it lack of knowledge by vw tech or truly not codeable to the car. How do I know what rack will code this one works perfect just have the yellow light steering wheel and traction control and esp lights still.
    Oilhammer,
Recently aquired 2014 JSW w/150k and sooty tailpipe with P2002, P0401, P240F and now P0544.
Somehow it just passed a NYS inspection (i wonder how)
Emissions 'modification' performed by dealer 2018.
    I plan to delete.
How long can/should I drive it under this condidtion without damaging anything not covered by the delete?
Is there anything I should do in the meantime?
    Thx

Hello Oilhammer, I've recently encountered the P0401, P240F, and P048C error codes, and I suspect that either EGR clogging or DPF failure might be the underlying issue. Could you please provide a recommendation for an affordable TDI expert in the vicinity of NYC? Thank you so much!

Hello Oilhammer - just read a great set of instructions for DPF replacement you wrote for a VW. I have an Audi A3 TDI - codes P240F, P0401, P2002. Can you make a best guess recommendation? I am thinking DPF replacement... Anything else??? New to all this TDI stuff... Thank you!

You responded to my post of 5/2/23 asking what am I trying to do. I did more work on my NO START ALH and have a detailed post on 5/21/23. I would greatly appreciate it if you would take a look and give me any of your insight. Thank you.
Hey Brian, I really appreciate all your input in the forums, both past and present and a preemptive thank for all the future work. I love reading your comments and especially your threads. Wish we lived closer to you so I could be a client lol. Hope all is well with you!!
    Hi Brian,
We talked once before about having you work on several of my TDI's. The biggest logistic problem is I'm in Florida.
I was hoping to chat with you about shipping one of my B5.5 up to you for some engine work, plus a few other items
we can talk about. I'll give you a call this week to see what might work best in terms of timing.

Thanks for your response. Understand. I am told it might be an injector that is not functioning properly, as a result it is filling up the oil pan with diesel.
Do you have a recommendation of someone that could confirm the issue and repair it. I don't dare drive it so I am prepared to put it on a trailer and take it wherever.
Thanks again, feel free to call. Carl 239-777-1300
Hi Brian, I go by skibumjh on the forum.

Looking to confirm what I've understood re: replacing my dual mass flywheel.

I have a 2012 Jetta sportwagen with the DSG trans. I understand that the LuK DMF 126 is the one I need. Carid say I need the 181, but they agreed the 126 will work in my car so long as it's a 6 speed.

    Correct?

    Thanks,

    Scott
Hi Brian: TW-Louisville. The 05 Passat (you know the ONE :)) still performing at 340K+; however yesterday the ASR light came on - and stays on. Can you point me in a direction or 2 to diagnose? As usual - THANKS.

OBD works, ask the ABS module. ;)
    Brian,
I purchased Brussels Belgian‘s car several years back. 4door sedan. GTD. I don’t drive it any more. It’s been sitting for several months and it is time to pass it on. Right around 210k on it. Just south of Philadelphia PA.

    Brian,

Hello Oilhammer! A couple of years ago you kindly helped me connect with a TDI specialist for my (then) recently purchased '96 TDI Passat Wagon--Matt Phaelan. He moved to Newport, OR, and went completely MIA about a year ago. Are you aware of any other TDI specialists or shops in Southern California?
    Thanks in advance.
Hi Mr. oilhammer What is this permanent heater core fix you speakith about? I hane a 2014 TDI SE and I am on number 3 and a flush again at dealer. They would not replace it this time because the got the floor vents to 100 degrees after a flush. So I know I will be back at some point. They have put new antifreeze in and flushed every time. The car just turned 60k Please tell me the cure!!!
i have a 2004 tdi wagaon i can be driving along and will loose power, if i stop turn off engine and restart it runs normal again. there are 2 codes 16683 and po299 intermittent. any idea how to solve.
Hi there, its my first time to use a forum so please be gentle, Has anyone had a fuel tem sender preventing the engine from starting ?
Hi Oilhammer, I have an acquaintance who ran his 09 TDI out of fuel on the road. Now he has a flashing glow plug light and a no start condition. They called me. I ran the VCDS routine to run them simultaneously 4x. Still no start. Fuze F14 is good. They are believing that the HPFP is cratered. Would that be your assessment?
    Hi Oilhammer,
I am trying to figure out if I can 4 wheels down tow a manual transmission VW behind my motorhome. Is there en splash lubricant for the bearings?
    thanks
    Hi Oilhammer,
I saw a super old post of yours where you mentioned you replace a lot of RCV valves. I recently replaced mine with a super cheap one, no brand (i.e. polar bear/RKX) and was wondering if you’ve had cases where you’ve had to replace them twice bc of poor quality replacement?)
    oilhammer
    oilhammer
I have had to replace them again after a similar amount of time as the original, if that is what you mean. I may also have my very first "defective" one in that the customer says the A/C does not turn off.
    I
    Ivnx
Thank you for that response, I think it makes sense. Have you ever had an RCV valve failure be the cause of an ac compressor not engaging?
    oilhammer
    oilhammer
The compressor is always "engaged", there is no clutch.
