I misread your post...thought you said shavings in oil filter. Shavings in fuel filter would reference tandem pump wear.

Depending on your handiness, anywhere from 2-4 hrs. Took me about 2.5hrs on mine.

If it's only the sound you're going by, I'd look into the vny actuator by testing it with the vacuum pump and test for sticking vnt operation.

It possibly sounds like the o-rings on the replaced valve might be the culprit. Those two pressures should not be the same (from my understanding).

Sounds very similar to when the cam/lifters wore down on mine. This would cause the metal shavings as well and fits the bill.

Agree with James, I wouldn't pull the head just for that reason alone. If anything make sure your intake manifold is clean.

Your refrigerant control valve is bad, very common issue on the MKV Jettas. It mounts into the ac compressor, you do NOT have to remove the compressor/belts to replace it. It's accessible from under the car but will have to remove/refill the refrigerant. Kruso
