No Glow? Hard cold start? Check coolant temp sensor.

There are several threads regarding glowplugs and hard starting. Yes, if your glow time is too short and it is cold, it will be very hard to start. Last summer I noticed the temperature guage intermittanly falling back to zilch when the car was obviously warm and running. No one makes coolant...

Strong Sales Mark Launch of Jeep Liberty CRD

My current ride is a '99 A4 TDI manual, but need something a bit larger and "SUV-ish" for work. The V10 Toureg is out of the question. Having a hard time deciding between the CRD and a Jetta A4(auto) Wagon. The Jeep is a bit more money, but it definitely hauls when you put your foot down...

Jeep Liberty CRD brochure came in the mail today

I found a fairly good write up here: http://www.allpar.com/model/jeep/liberty-review.html Unanswered questions so far: How long is the timing belt good for? Are the shop mechanics trained on this engine yet? For info on other Jeep choices you can alos take a look at www.daimlerchrysler.co.uk and...

    Throttle stuck wide open

Umm - if that ever happens, put your foot on the brake. Engine should go to idle in a few seconds if the ECU is somewhat functional. I guess I would have reached for the key too as I would not have remembered the above.

    It blew up!

Not sure if everyone here heard the news: Thursday night Petro Canada had a little problem at their refinery that produces lubricants. With a tremendous bang, heard the other side of Lake Ontario, the "hydro treater section" blew up. Fortunately, no one was injured, and the rest of the plant is...

    VERY poor acceleration

You should be able to use the MAF from the gasser. Should be around $80. However, from the threads, some folks that have done this report mostly good success, a few report excess smoke and a few get intermittant MIL's. There is a resistor mod that should eliminate the problems. For me it works A1.

    Laptop power for VAG-COM

FYI - Most Toshiba laptops can be powered directly from the accessory power plug in the car. I made a direct cable to run the 12V to the computer (with a fuse of course!). When you start the car the laptop wil go into charge mode as the 12.5V rises to 13.8. This works with a Sat. Pro 490, a...

Please, status comments ONLY from people who've installed 2.0 MAF

Please, status comments ONLY from people who\'ve installed 2.0 MAF 2.0 MAF installed 10 weeks and 5000Km's ago. Much better performance, esp. 3000-4200 rev range, no smoke. Car is stock except for EGR "software" mod.

    Engine Troubles

A dead MAF will not prevent starting. The ECU will detect this and go into "limp mode", set an error code and turn on the MIL (check engine lamp). Likely a relay (109??), but may also be the fuel cut-off valve (search this site for same). Relay 109 is notorious for this problem, especially if it...

Gas MAF in my TDI Beetle

I have a gasser MAF now on my Jetta - runs great. I would hazard a guess your MAF may have died. I have not noticed any excess smoke, nor did I plug any extra "holes" Per the above you want to see someone with a VAG-COM to look at the codes.

    Glow Plug Relay Test

In that 20 seconds it may aslo be possible to check the current draw of the GP's. You would need a clamp type DC ammeter. A good one is a little pricey (Fluke 336 or 337), but cheaper ones are around.

    Troubleshooting the glow plug relay

If you have gone this far, it should be possible for you to activate the relay "manually" the n do a continuity test of the contacts that deluver current to the GP's. All you should need are some alligator type jumper wires and a 12V supply. This way you isolate the problem from the car or ECU...

I found this on a search for "Battery Equalization" on Google: ======================= Battery Equalization Liquid electrolyte batteries that have been floated at a low voltage for long periods need to be periodically equalized. Equalization is the process that equalizes the specific gravity...
