Odometer resets to zero at 300k

My car reached 300,000kms and the odometer began again at 1. Everything else fine - trip and clock kept their record. Has the car reached its best buy date, or what? I have looked through the threads and not seen the same event? Any bright ideas? Andrew

    glow plugs ok....where next?

Hello there, I have been having a similar problem and thought it might be helpful to share my information and see if anyone can help the two of us. (By the way, I have also posted this note in the maintenance area for A4 TDI's, where there is some more information on this problem). My Jetta...

Intermittent Cold Miss Fire solved ?

Hello there, very glad to hear you may have your problem solved, but I have had something similar and thought it might make sense to post this problem to the same thread (though I will also post it to the A3 Jetta area where it belongs). My Jetta 98 TDI has now 250,000 kms on it and I found...

Consumers Reports really likes the Jetta Wagon

Unfortunately, they do not so much like the Jetta TDI in their latest mag (Dec 2002) - especially since they now rate Jetta quality as "Much worse than average"! Pity! Andrew

    Remote Door and Boot Opener

I have a 98 Jetta TDI which, admittedly, covers lots of miles. I have found the buttons on the keyed remote (especially the one for the boot "trunk") lose their cover and eventually lose their effectiveness. Anyone else had this problem? Andrew ------------------

Fog light kit for Mk IV Golf

Harry, you must be feeling wealthy. I dropped by that fine Canadian icon (Canadian Tire) and bought myself a set of Hella rectangular white fog lights and had the dealer fit them using a headlight switch from stock (I think Jetta Mk2) which fitted beautifully (if horizontally) into one of the...

    Tyre Wear

I have now done 93,000 kms in my 98 Jetta and found a distinct drumming noise on smoother (i.e. quieter) roads. Tyre specialist said that all the tyres showed "cupping" and would exhibit this noise. Not a safety issue and the tyres could be used for about another 40,000kms, but only solution...

    Instument cluster just replaced.........

I haven't had an inaccurate fuel guage, but certainly had a couple of occasions when it failed to read properly for a few miles. (Not the result of filling with ignition on.) Dealer also suspected sender unit, but did not re-occur so never did anything further. ------------------

    Loss of Free-Revving

For a day or two I felt as if my Jetta 98 TDI was suffering from fuel starvation. Would not freely rev up and had no overtaking power. Another oddity was that on initial startup the engine would rev up before dropping to idle. I noticed that someone in the Netherlands had had a similar...

    Ontario's Drive Clean and Diesels..

Re: Ontario\'s Drive Clean and Diesels.. Mikey, don't KNOW the answer to your question, but I read somewhere that diesel vehicles were exempted for the moment. Maybe downsizing means that we pretend to clean up things, but don't actually do so. (No reference to our beloved TDI's of course...

Trunk CD Changer - Where Can I get One?

Thanks to everyone for their help. I have ordered what appears to be a manufacturer's OEM changer from Autotoys.com Unit for the Jetta/Beatle is on sale now at $235. Will let you know if it really turns out to be plug and play. Anyone with experience of their units? Andrew ------------------

Trunk CD Changer - Where Can I get One?

I know this has been asked before, but would someone be kind enough to let me know where I can get a CD changer that connects directly to the Jetta wiring. I can of course get it from the dealer (at a premium price) but know that some of you out there did much better. Any location that will...

    Towing with the TDI

According to our dealer the technical problem with towing is overheating the turbo. Highly recommended that you fit an oil temp guage if you plan to to tow. A small guage can quite easily fit into one of the clip off filler panels on the dash. Cheers, Andrew

    Road Test - New Jetta

For a European perspective on the new Jetta (Bora) do have a look at the motoring web page of the Daily Telegraph (UK). Basically they feel that the Golf is much more sensible (to Europeans) and the trunk version is best left to the Americans, but it is a great car and marks a significant move...
