Turns out that the single brown/white wire off the Passat cluster harness is for the trunk indicator! Glad I didn't fry the ECU:)

Actually, if there are two brake switches... Where one is NC, while the other is NO -that would suggest that the two circuits should be isolated. Even though a test light would show that the wire going to the brake lights is showing a ground when the brakes are not applied -and positive when...

Do you stilll have that 1z wiring harness? How much of it is there, and is it from the mk3? I noticed you had an AHU harness under the same heading... I got a 1z (from a 96 passat) for a project, and the PO kind of butchered it...
