Center console falls down with any weight on it

Looks like there are a few things that can go wrong with the center console. Any easy way of stopping the center console from falling down when weight is placed on it without converting to an 03+ type? I wasn't sure if this was a common problem.

The ratcheting mechanism has failed if it's just falling down. There is a pin internal that can freeze in place because of the aluminum corrosion. I've found it's almost impossible to free this pin once it's all corroded. Had the same issue with my original console, ended up having to find a good one at the junk yard. They're easy to pull apart and look at though if you want to diagnose
