Car is a 2015 Passat SEL with 99,300 miles.
Heater core was replaced in October of 2020 and the heat was back to normal.
During January of this year I lost air flow from the center vents. I found a procedure to reset the servo and it responded to the button pressing sequence though there was not change to the center vent air flow.

I lived with it since I use the car mainly to get back and forth work, 100 miles a day. I'm the only passenger >95 % of the time.
Yesterday I turned the AC on and only the Driver side vent was cold and with a good volume of air. The center left was greatly reduced in temp & airflow getting worse at the center right vent and warm at the passenger side vent.
Does this sound like the center servo controlled flapper that I've read about here?

It's kind of weird that the AC gets worse from driver's side to the passenger's just as with the bad heater core the heater's temperature declined from driver to passenger side. The heater core failure did not impact the volume of air moving through the system though.

I bought a VCDS and pulled the below log.
In the HVAC I have two problems:
9473393 - Motor for Right Temperature Flap
9474417 - Motor for Front Air Distribution Flap.

I have 2 questions to start with:
How many motors are in the SEL ?
Where are these 2 motors located ?

Thank you for any input,
Joe

There are just too many to list....
You may want to edit that giant post, LOL.

Anyway, the HVAC motors are in the center part of the case where the heater core and evaporator core are, save for the recirc motor that is over on the passenger side behind the glove box. If your car has dual climate control zone, it has an extra temp blend motor, as the center portion of the case is divided in two.

The mode motor, and the driver side temp motor (or if single zone, the ONLY temp motor) is on the left side of the center case, near the driver's right foot area. The passenger side temp motor is on the passenger side of the case, opposite the driver's.

Now if you have a DTC for "right temp flap", then your car has dual zone.

Once the dash is out, you can see all three of the ones in the case, but the mode one is still a bit of a pain to get to due to the support brace above the accelerator pedal area.

These pictures aren't very helpful, sorry.

Long post for sure, I was hoping that the auto scan would appear as a text box where one can scroll through the readout, as on the Ross-Tech site.

I have a dual zone as it is the Right Temp and the Center air flow trouble codes.

Also, as you are very familiar with this set-up, I'd like to ask the likelihood of, during a heater-core replacement in October, these cables/connectors not being fully seated and backing out with the normal vibration filled environment.

I'm just hoping that perhaps I could pull off a couple of panels to see if any connectors came loose.
If they are not close to where the work was done it's not worth the effort though.

I very much doubt the heater core had anything to do with this. These HVAC motors are a common failure item, and for whatever reason, they seem worse on 2015+ cars, so I think VAG must've changed suppliers or something, or the Chinese bits inside them are worse than before.

My recirculation works and it's the easiest to get at so I'll leave it alone for now.

Short of working with the service manual I downloaded, is there a u-tube video out there that anyone has seen? I took a quick look and will look again and I only found older models.

UGH.... lord help me.

my gf's 2015 Passat TDI SE isn't blowing very good. weak air. blower motor has been replaced by VW under CPO in 2018. now she has zero remaining warranty as she is now deleted. cabin filter replaced 2 weeks ago. it helped like 10% improvement of air flow but not enough. for my 2014 JSW and her daughter's 2013 Jetta TDI, they blow very hard and icy cold unlike the Passat, barely kept all of 5 of us to stay cool in the Central FL heat especially Orlando, truly brutal for being a black car.

heater core is going bad, blows hot on one side, other side zero heat. I know it has nothing to do with this. so this is the same procedure I need to do as well as you mentioned on your post few days ago?

also keep this in mind, we plan to take the Passat to the Left Coast with 5 of us in the Black Passat TDI on this coming summer for 3-4 weeks hence why I need to fix this asap. :) and nope I am not taking her to any VW stealerships after seeing the mess they made on my 2014 JSW. nopey nope. none of them are going to touch any of our TDI's unless it is the last resort.

as oilhammer said, read the codes first, then figure out what needs to be replaced.

find a nice local shop they should treat your right.

I not going to bring the car into the dealership for this at the present time, I'm going to live with it. I drive solo in the car and it keeps me cool in Max AC mode. I saw in the service manual that I can access the Right Temperature control motor by removing the glove box and a couple of panels.

If it gets intolerable I'll go that route, putting off the Front Distribution flap repair until later. In my case I'm hoping that having the right side also putting out cold air will allow me to be more comfortable even without the Front Distribution(MODE flapper) functioning.
