Can someone help me out with the part number for a 2011 Touareg TDI A/T Valve Body? I'm not having luck confirming that the part number is " 0C8325039" or " 0C8325039A" or some other number specific to the TDI? parts.vw.com isn't being clear.

There are just too many to list....
You need to know your 3-digit transmission letter code. There are like 12 of them.

It will be somewhere on the transmission on the tag, or on the build sheet (usually stuck in the spare tire well on most VAG products, but I am not 100% sure on the T'reg).

Thanks, oilhammer!

The vehicle is being shipped to me (slipping 1st gear) so I guessing it needs a new valve body. It's not a rush job, so I'll get the code once I receive it and go from there.

That would be one heck of a guess! Diagnose what the situation is first, then go from there. Start with asking the TCM was is going on. Has it sent a MIL request? Has it ever gone into limp mode?

Aisin transmissions rarely fail.

Once I get it in, I'll run VCDS to see what's going on. I intend to start with just a fluid and filter change, and see if that resolves it. Service history on the vehicle is pretty extensive (looks like 1st owner always took it to the stealership for maintenance), but no mention in the records of any transmission service. It has 117k miles, so I'm thinking it's time for a change.

Also, I'm a M/T guy so the world of slushboxes is a new uncharted territory for me.

If memory serves correct, the 0C8 would only use 3rd if the issue was in gears 1-4 or 7th if it was in gears 5-8 during operation.... once a restart would take place, only 3rd and reverse would be "available"...... I'd say to really need to do some digging before throwing parts at it.
My first check would be fluid level as many people have butchered fluid services on these or have never done them because they are "sealed for life"

And first gear is so short on those, I don't know how you'd even know that it was slipping (that SPECIFIC ratio). There is almost certainly more going on than we know. Keep us posted. I know some of these have a 2nd gear start function if the ATF value is super bitter cold, but that would be a normal thing and you'd likely not even notice it.

The TC will slip by design when fluid is cold to accelerate the fluid "warmup to temp" process....

No lockup, yes, they pretty much all do that. The "staged" lockup.... but that is also fairly undetectable to most drivers most of the time.

Except for the 098/01P.... those sumbiches lock up in 4th gear no matter what, LOL.

So, I got the T-Reg in. It does have an issue with the transmission slipping (doesn't want to accelerate from dead stop without a lot of pedal, and it jumps a little when you shift into reverse). Didn't realize my old VCDS cable wouldn't work on this platform, so I had to trade it in on a HEX-CAN V2.
I did road test it, and it is drivable, but doesn't seem like it wants to shift easily (RPMs were over 2k at 55mph).

Anyway, just ran an Auto-Scan and in addition to a P1624 in the engine module, I got this in the Auto Trans Module. Any thoughts? Should I just try a flush and fill, or should I go deeper?

What you are saying about the transmission having only 3rd gear available makes alot of sense based on the symptoms I'm experiencing.

I feel like there's more to this story, or some work has been done to this unit which you are not aware of.
The Orange and Red text indicated that you are stuck in 6th!
The TCU seems to be under the impression that you are in 1st at idle based on the Bold Black error!

I would dig into output tests in the trans module to see if you are able to do output tests on the solenoids.... you either have failed components or wiring issues by the looks of it.

Sounds to me like it is in limp mode. I would check the ATF level and condition, clear the DTC and see if it goes right back into limp mode.

And your original information you shared, slipping in 1st, is what the error shows. The TCM wanted 1st gear ratio, and it was detecting a higher-than-acceptable slippage during that command. So it goes to limp mode. According to my info, it is greater than 10% difference (so input speed vs. output speed) in expected for 12 times longer than 1000 ms (so, one second).

You'd have to look at a flow/apply chart to see what is being commanded on/off to make 1st gear. If it is JUST that gear, and no others, and the ATF is full and reasonable condition, it could just be a control side issue.

Edit: I see an apply chart was provided by TurboABA.... and you can see there that the K1 apply clutch is working for 1st through 5th ratios. Which would *possibly* mean the gearset/clutchsets are OK, and you have some sort of control problem. *However*, since the error happens for 1st, it may indeed be the K1 clutch is lunched and the TCM never lets it get into 2nd to find out. This is where the condition of the ATF can give some clues.

You could also change your coding to 00B168 in order to have your cluster display your gear in normal D mode..... just throwing that out.

and in addition to a P1624 in the engine module
Wait a second.... so your TCM is also giving you errors!
What's the full story here?
Have you had the TCM out, apart, replaced, flood vehicle, TCM tune, TCM swap, etc?

What kind of condition, history and milage specimen are we guessing at here?

P1624 just means the Engine controller got a MIL request from the TCM. We already knew this. There is no "Check Transmission Light", so the Transmission has to ask the Engine for a MIL request (which then in turn goes across the CAN bus to the Instruments, yada-yada-yada).

I just want to make sure that the user (or previous owner) didn't go through a carwash with their passenger window down, did have a 5ga pale of fluid spilled onto their passenger seat, didn't have their TCM removed for tuning or for "pre FIX" reflashing, yada-yada-yada.....

Lots of egg owners either source different TCMs from pre-fix vehicles or have theirs flashed back in order to undo the new logic which has undesired effects on performance\drivability, etc. (such behaviors may be a contributing factor to our little mystery here)

TurboABA, you were correct, the transmission is stuck in 6th Gear. I flipped shifter into manual and it would not shift up or down.

I just up picked this T-Reg with 118k miles for $8900, knowing it had a transmission problem. According to Carfax, it spent its life in SoCal and Phoenix, AZ.

I just drained the transmission and pulled the pan this afternoon. ATF was the color of coffee, but no other obvious signs of damage. I would have thought the PO would have tried servicing the transmission, but based on the fluid, I'm starting to think that it hasn't been touched.

I definitely, don't think anywhere near 8 litres came out, when I drained the transmission. New transmission filter comes in tomorrow, so I'll see if I can get some pics of the valve body and solenoid wiring and post them.

The two other codes are in the HVAC and Central Conv. so I don't think they're related to the transmission problems.

That's not a lot of milage.
I suspect you have a leaky line/connection or a hole in the trans cooler. Keep a close eye on it after you refill it, and make sure you use the correct fluid and procedure (it's temp dependant and you have to row through the gearbox, etc)

I definitely, don't think anywhere near 8 litres came out, when I drained the transmission.
A pan drop will only get maybe 50% of the fluid out. Initial factory fill is ~11L.... there's .7L in the cooler, and a pile more in the converter, etc.
If you don't "power flush" with the factory tool, your best option is to do it by disconnecting the cooler line to flush out as much as you can of the old fluid.

Realistically, you're only doing this to ensure that the box is still good and functioning properly, so maybe you can mickey mouse it this time until things check out and then you do it the "proper way".

Replaced the filter and gasket, and refiled per instructions (rowed through the gears, warmed up ATF, drained off excess, etc.). Unfortunately, this did not cure the problems. I cleared the codes and took the T-Reg on a 15 mile drive, and this time same issues, but also two additional codes. The P0798 code is particularly interesting, since the clutch configuration (only C2 is closed) at the time, doesn't match any gear setting.

This looks like just a failed\stuck solenoid since there's no pressure in the system but the clutch is closed.
Due to that last code, I'd suspect that N217 is fubared. This solenoid is used to "activate" gears 1-5 so it somewhat also explains the "default" 6th gear. If you still have 6th, 7th, 8th, and R, this would validate my theory. (since none of those rely on the N217)

Looks like my transmission is a MHC. Based on the lack of availability of solenoids (I can only find Chinesium solenoid kits, and they are as expensive as a used valve body), I think I'm just going to buy a good used valve body $339, and try that. At least valve body comes with a 30 day warranty.

Unfortunately, this project will be on hiatus for the next three weeks, since I will be out-of-town for work. Gotta go earn more money to support my TDI habit! ;)

Well, that didn't work...

I replaced the valve body, and no change. I'm pretty close to giving up, and taking it to a professional.

My question for you guys is this:

Would I be better taking this to a VW specialist, or an automatic transmission specialist?

Most shops, and any dealer, are not likely to do anything but swap out the unit with a reman one. You could certainly call a transmission shop and ask them, though. It is a fairly commonplace Aisin box, but they do not fail much, so transmission shops may not have a lot of experience with them.

If all a shop would do is swap out gearboxes, that's something that could probably do myself (I have access to a garage with a lift at work). Are these transmissions "plug-and-play" or do they require coding and programming to work with the ECU?

The TCM is not inside the unit, and aside from some adaptive learning which is done by clearing the TCM's values there should be nothing special that need be done when swapping out the transmission.
