Something strange, 2015 Jetta CVCA, I'll be cruising along, and it cuts out for a second, then its fine. It does this randomly. I thought water in fuel, but I'm on tank 5, still doing it. Changed fuel filter still doing it. No CEL, No codes. Its baffled me. Anyone experienced it? ran two different fuel sources, no change.

Long shot.
Try scanning for codes right after it happens and before shutting the car off.

Thanks, I will try that.

I filled up this week with Exxon Mobile's premium diesel, no change, still random skipping....

How are you checking for DTCs? Generic stuff won't tag everything like VCDS or something that speaks proper Volkswagen can.

Something else to try: whenever the conditions are present that it has done the "skipping", leave the engine running and open the hood and carefully wiggle around any part of the engine wiring harness you can easily access. There is a lot of stuff crammed in there, so you may not be able to get to much, but I have found many engine harness issues on other VAG products like that (but never on the 2015 CVCA engine...yet).

Following. I just bought mine used and it's doing the same thing. Not very often. New vagcom is still on route so I haven't been able to dig into it, but using two more generic bluetooth OBD2 dongles doesn't find any codes. Haven't tried checking after it happens before shutdown as i figured if something was logged a freeze frame of it would stick around. Will try that next time I notice it.

I've been experiencing the same thing the last few months. What I notice is that is mainly happens when I'm in 3rd gear between 50 & 60 km/h at or just below 2000 rpm. I've cleaned the MAF sensor, changed the air filter, and changed the fuel filter with no change. No warning lights or anything.

Edit: My vehicle is a 2012 Jetta 6-speed manual

Its a long shot, but I'm going to try and call up some VW service departments and try and pick there brain. I'll post the results.

My journey so far:
2015 CVCA 122K timing belt done @120K ( skipping before and after timing belt, fyi)
4 different fuel sources, still skips
fuel filter change, still skips
Cold snap, hot snap, still skips
low speed, high speed, still skips

Update on Dealer call. After explaining my situation, plus my Google review after we hang up....... He talked to his guys in the shop about it, and called me back. No one has reported that happing to them, so without codes/data he was at a loss on cause. This was Jim Ellis dealer in Chamblee GA. At least the tried to help me. I give them a good review for that.........

I will try another dealer too.

In the meantime, going to have battery and alternator tested too. (new duralast gold May 19, 2019, 5ye3yr)

Ok, yesterday I had time to check/wiggle/push all the connection I could see/find.... with the engine running. No change.

Skipping a few times on the way in this morning, like normal.....BaHaHaHa......it should not be normal...LOL

1.Hoping to have time to call a couple stealers today.
2. Added VAG-com to budget, top of list.

Calling a dealer isn't going to help you, and you'll just be wasting their time on the phone. If you want one to look at your car, make an appointment to bring the car in, and INSIST that you are able to drive the car with the service writer when you bring it in (assuming the car will do it with enough regularity that you can show him/her what exactly is happening).

Now if it is something that happens a few times over the span of an hour's worth of driving, it may not be feasible to do that. In which case, you'll be left with the technician test driving the car for a "reasonable" period of time to try and reproduce the complaint. Otherwise all that is left is some OBD sleuthing and perhaps some visual checks.

Problems like this can be hard to pin down, and may require some gut instincts to look into things that *could* cause the problem, like a flaky CKP sensor signal that can only be viewed by human eyes through the use of a scope.

Point taken.

I really believe from my observation so far its related to the regen.

That said. Does anyone know what I will be able to see/monitor with VAG-COM software in regards to the regen?

I hate to drop $200, for nothing.

thanks

Footnote: I am going to try the VAG DPF app, to monitor the regens before getting VAG-COM .......(adapter is only $29)(( app is $4.69))

I found a post ...... the poster said it ended up being a fuel injector........ So I guess I will wait until the injector starts throwing a code, before the stealer will fix it under warranty.

Pony up and buy Ross-Tech's VCDS, run a report and post it here, like OilHammer suggested. It's money well spent, and you can always re-sell it. It'll tell you a lot more that forum members really need to know to steer you in the right direction. I had my Hex-Com since 2005, Ross-Tech just let me trade that 15yo in on a new one, that works on everything from our 1994 Audi (4x4 connector) to our 2015 EA288...

I am going to add it to my budget.

I do know this, the dealer will not do anything without there is a code generated. Been told that by three stealerships. ( Millennial society, very few real mechanics left )

As a side note: We had a stretch of colder temps, and it didn't buck for a few days. As soon as the temp came back up, been bucking like normal....LOL

Its pretty Bad when Bucking is normal.

Good news. Faulty/failing fuel pump. Also said with it failing, found metal in fuel lines. Going to replace the whole fuel system. Dieselgate warranty covers fuel system on mine until 162K. I currently have 135K.

How lucky am I.

the big red herring is "Engine out of time" on the report. Have you had the timing belt replaced recently ?
