Will a front right wheel bearing housing from a 2002 GTI fit my 2000 TDI Jetta. I believe they're all the same but just checking if a GTI is slightly different.

Thanks

I believe the GTI has the larger knuckle for the bigger brake rotor and caliper. The spindle, I think is the same.

What housing are you referring too?

The front is pressed into a spindle. And the only thing different on the GTI brake setup are the mounting brackets / caliper carriers that make them suitable for bigger brakes from factory. The spindles themselves are same same.

The only gti models that had anything different than the base models was the 20th / 337 & of course the *r32s*. Knuckle and spindle = same thing. People refer to it different but there isn't really much of a difference in the basic gtis and base model mk4s

The knuckle/spindle for the 1.9 diesel & 2.0 gasser had a fixed brake caliper carrier.

The 1.8, 2.8 & 3.2 had a removable caliper carrier, all of which support larger rotors than the 1.9(D) & 2.0 (G)

For the OP that's the most important fact.

In short, it could work, but you would need to address the brake caliper carrier and rotor issue and would not be able to (easily/realistically) match the current 280mm rotor on the other side.

For something like this it's easy to go shopping, jot down part nos. for each. Or call a dealership for numbers.
Or you can wait for someone who has dealt with those 2 cars to chime in.

My apologies you are 100% correct. The 2.0 and tdi had the fixed position carriers; I've dealt mainly with the vr/gli/awp lately so I forgot the TDI had the micro brakes. Next up on the list for me soon I reckon will be spindle swap

280 to 288 is hardly the difference between 'real' and 'micro'...even if the 288's are several mm thicker...:) That said, I put 288's on my Jetta when I did its suspension refresh at 100k.
cheers,

Yes, all the other parts are the same (ball joints, tie rods, bearings, hubs), but the knuckles are different to accommodate the bigger brakes.
