My car had a Malone stage II tune, DPF, EGR, and ASV delete... no cats as well; just a straight pipe all the way from the downpipe to the OE exhaust.

Buyback specialist never even popped the hood to look at the engine.
and you sold it back just like that?

We don't know that. If a dealer is installing new emissions hardware it may not matter what they take off the car. And they will, of course, be re-flashing the ECU. Aside from perhaps losing some expensive delete hardware, it may not be a problem at all.

Dealers don't work for the EPA. They don't care about whether or not a car that comes in is compliant. They just want to do the work and get paid.
I would bet that the parts need to be accounted for, what is put on the vehicle to replace an emission part, needs to have a corresponding part returned. This is typical of warranty repairs, VW keeps the part that is replaced.

Yup. Why would I put back a broken DPF? I still have all the parts in my garage, but I wasn't going to spend the time and effort putting everything back the way it was.

I thought we were getting money no matter what...for the inconvenience. I signed up for the fix but may change to the buyback if someone starts selling a wagon that gets good mileage and isn't 40K. dammit I need get back on here and start reading
Sorry, I misread your other post. Armby is correct that to get the fix money , the fix has to be performed.

Idea is to get the unfixed cars off the road either with a buyback or fix. If you don't do the fix or the buyback what inconvenience did you suffer? Also, from an EPA perspective, if you get the money without doing the fix why would you go through with the risk of a fix?

Also worth noting that no fix has yet been approved for anything but 2015 model year cars.

Amstel78 Buybback

Amstel78 - thanks for the response. In the end, did you feel the compensation provided was fair? i.e. i've read some articles (few below from David Tracy) where people in the end feel like all they got for $ was basically what bluebook says minus milage.

I'm just trying to decide if I sell my 2010 Touareg with mods on the open market and get the F out now buy a Dodge Cummins Truck... or wait for the chance to make $5k on top of the bluebook minus mileage.

Thanks
Shui

I have heard diesel mechanics say that some tunes can leave traces on your ecu of example tuning your car then putting it back to stock when you take it in. But I really don't see why they would say anything unless you were under warranty because the vehicle would be brought in as stock.

I just wish I knew the date that the second stage of the fix would take place (if it happens) because I don't want to install my rawteck eco delete exaughst and malone stage 2 tune if they are going to do the fix within a year thats a pain in butt to keep swapping parts.

I have the Buzzken Downpipe with Cat, EGR delete and malone tune with a Flashzilla, currently Stage 2 installed. device has the stock and Stage 1.5,

I have all the OEM parts but not looking forwards to swapping everything back. worse fear would be to mess some sensors up and render vehicle inoperable.

I'm looking at $16K for my 2009 so the buyback is pretty much a most.

Any suggestions? Replace the parts and hope to sell them? What would be the market value of these aftermarket parts if so many could be flooding the market, plus the excess inventory from shops?

Again the parts would be:
Buzzken pipe with cat.
ARod EGR delete pipe
Flashzilla with 2 Malone tunes (2 and 1.5)

BTW are these tunes good for another TDI? does it have to be same year?

Thanks in advance. My current plan was to wait until summer 2018 but willing to hear your thoughts. Thanks.

I'm in the same boat...Buzzken downpipe/EGR delete worth removing to sell? I paid $530/$165 for the parts, so maybe worth $300-400 to the right CR140 owner who's keeping their car? Don't think I'm going to pull it off and pay for a stock reflash for that amount.

I'm sure you could find a buyer at that price. The question is if it is worth the hassle. Especially since you could likely get near the same amount for the oem exhaust.

Anyone who's taken the buyback and returned a stage 2 or 3 car without the DPF concerned VW may come back once they have a fix saying the car was modified? or once they take it back it's a done deal?

I did, stage 2, and I think and hope its a done deal. These cars may end up crushed and vw will never even know, if the fix is found then they may object but from what I have heard the only requirement for buy back is that the car makes it under its own power, basically.

^^^^^^^ This

I'm in the hold out camp, I don't want to give my car back, at all, and doubt they'll come up with an actual fix. If they don't and by some wild stroke of fortune and my dealer has a suitable in every way Passat that I'd get into at no additional cost, then I'll give back, trade up and "fix" it later. :p

I am actually betting on people like you that will keep their cars to one day in the future buy me a 09-10 Jetta or 10-14 Golf Std and fix it up stage 3.5... with no fix in sight all I can do is hope some will survive the crusher :(

My 13 Golf 6MT is at 3.5 already and I want to keep it but the chance that the state of NJ will not allow me to register it in the future may force me to return it.

I am not in the market just yet, and when I will be I will actually looking for a stock car as I already have all the hardware for the Malone stage 3.5 tune but do contact me if you come to that point of having to sell to VW, thanks god Texas is not so restrictive.

Unless NJ is one of the few states that has not signed on to the settlement, there is no chance that they will refuse to register any Dieselgatemobile, whether a fix is approved (or completed) or not.

I believe NJ is 1 of the 5 who has not signed onto the settlement and why I'm now changing my mind to a possible buy back.

This is from the Gen 2 2.0L emissions fix packet that can be found here: https://www.vwcourtsettlement.com/e...ssions_Modification_Disclosure_Volkswagen.pdf

On Page 10 it states:
"If the vehicle has been modified by the customer prior to receiving the emissions modification in a manner that may yield a non-compliant emissions system (for example, removal of a catalyst, installation of parts that impact emissions or emissions-related parts, or modifications to the ECU or computer software of the vehicle), Volkswagen may not be able to perform the emissions modification until the customer corrects such modification."

Thanks for that.

I guess that would apply if you chose the fix, but if you choose the buyback and VW now owns the car not sure if would apply anymore.

Thanks for that official update. I don't think anyone with modified thought VW was going to fixed their modified cars but that certainly answers the question. :)

I agree, buy back of modified cars was the concern which that doesn't speak to but now question is raised again. I really doubt there is any recourse, they are crushing most of our cars here (I feel like most of us have Gen 1 cars). :(

My 2016 JSW 6MT was tuned stage 1 and bought back months ago. No one ever knew. No one ever said anything. A complete non-issue.

Late to the party here; I'm turning in my 2012 a3 for a buyback however, it's currently a bit modified: Malone Stage 3, DSG tune, CR170, no egr, custom intake, down pipe, intercooler pipes, and cat delete pipe.

Will I be able to drop it off with the stock parts in the trunk or am i turning some wrenches? Thoughts? Anyone have a DPF pipe? :)

So long as it's running, you won't have any problems. Been there, done that. ?
