I'm struggling also. Just put on new tires due to rains here in SoCal and had myself mentally convinced to keep the car for another year or two. It's been a fantastic and trouble free vehicle for me. But I realize that I'm tempting fate if I don't move along to another vehicle at some point. I think another year is the outside limit at this point, and that will be a really sad day for me.Ohhh absolutely. Starting to have a glow plug isle with our car and needing tires, but considering driving it for another year or so.
Methinks it will be a sad day in mudville when we turn it in.
Will be a sad day for me also when we turn my Jetta in. a great car, cannot bear to think of it getting crushed. But it is not in my best interest to keep it.I'm struggling also. There is a remote storage lot I cannot get close enough to check out here in Columbus that looks like it is freshly full of cars, methinks they might be TDI's.
Scope it out and let us know. I'm curious to know how many different locations they're storing them at. I'm also curious to know how many repair centers they'll establish if/when fix gets approved. There is a remote storage lot I cannot get close enough to check out here in Columbus that looks like it is freshly full of cars, methinks they might be TDI's.
Will take binoculars by the site to see what I can see.
My guess is very few will be selected for repair.Scope it out and let us know. I'm curious to know how many different locations they're storing them at. I'm also curious to know how many repair centers they'll establish if/when fix gets approved.
My dealership says they are all being shipped to Chattanooga for storage until the fix is approved. Methinks people are making this up as they go along. When I turned in car on 12/30 I asked settlement specialist what will happen to my TDI. She said all cars will be trucked to Michigan for storage. Then if a fix is approved, VW will select those cars that suitable for resale.
I think the most likely situation is that vehicles are being shipped to several regional storage facilities around the country. This saves on trucking/transportation costs and also allows them to spread this inventory of nearly a half-million vehicles around. My dealership says they are all being shipped to Chattanooga for storage until the fix is approved. VW probably wants to keep this under wraps just like Mazda did with the Cougar ace, as Youtube videos of clean VW's being crushed is not in VW's best interest.
Right. And when this was said: "My dealership says they are all being shipped to Chattanooga for storage until the fix is approved", most likely what the dealership meant was "All the ones from our dealership (and others in the region)"...I think the most likely situation is that vehicles are being shipped to several regional storage facilities around the country. Yup.....All those vws have plates on them? CA plate stays with the car right?
It is pretty sad, methinks hell (at least the automotive version) awaits many of the older ones. Sad, several older ones behind my local VW dealer in the "dead line" last time I visited. This thread reminds me of my Catechism teachings of what happened to little babies who died before they were baptized.
I hope all these TDI's don't end up like those airplanes will.....those are new arrivals for the chop shop/used aircraft parts /metal recycle guy.....Lol. "Daddy, where do all the TDIs go?"
"To the aircraft boneyard, my child."
