Since the beginning it's been a smooth process. Uploaded all required paperwork, notarizied letters, and so on. Today 12/21, my scheduled buyback day has finally arrived. I show up 20 minutes early to my scheduled 1030am appointment at Linden VW and am taken to the ambassador. I give him all the prefilled paperwork and we go take the pictures of the car, odometer, etc.. Come back inside and finish up the paper work. Suddenly, I get the "OHhhh", your supposed to get a paper check. I answer yes and then I'm informed the checks haven't arrived. Long story short, after going back numerous times throughout the day and hours on the phone, I'm left with no car, no paperwork, and no freaking check. All I can do now is pray that the check arrives tomorrow.

Anyone else had or is having this issue?

For me to change that I would need to reschedule the appointment and that means probably waiting until the spring time.

I am on LI and the same thing happened to me this morning.

9am apt no check however I dropped the car at the dealer last night and new about the missing check going in. The ambassador at the dealer whas able to get a FedEx tracking number from VW Corp or 1800 settlement number and said that is was due to be deliver by 10:30am. I got a call around 11am that the check arrived. I picked it up and deposited it within 15 minutes.
My check was specifically dated Dec 8th so it was cut and mailed several days ago.

This is the perfect week to have FedEx deliveries delayed. And it makes it sound as though VW is cutting the checks just a day or two ahead of the appointment. That's tight. I suppose the alternative is the send then earlier and risk the buyback specialist mishandling / losing them. Either way, that blows. Hope you guys didn't have to drive far.

I once sold my house during winter. The day of the house closing, there was a terrible storm and FedEx was not flying into my area. As a result, the check, which was in an overnight FedEx envelope, did not arrive, but was scheduled to arrive when deliveries resumed the next day.

Because everyone involved was reachable, and the reason for the delay was understandable, and we had a tracking number for the overnight letter envelope, I decided to have faith, and go ahead with the closing. The check arrived the next day.

But so far, things are rather sketchy in figuring out what is going on. Was the reason the checks did not arrive due to bad weather in your area preventing FedEx from making overnight deliveries? Or is there no explanation?

Some times, you got to have faith, and at other times, you have to watch out.

Thanks for the response Mike. It give me a little hope and that I am not alone. I've heard it's been occurring at several locations tho. I just wish my ambassador was able to get me a tracking number so I could get a definte date.

Just sit tight and have a little more patience, try and get the FedEx tracking number. I am sure everything will be fine, which is why I decided to close and not receive the check then ... poff 120 minutes later the check showed up.

Haven't posted on this forum in a long time...but have been hitting the internet searching for this issue most of this evening because the exact same thing happened to us today. We're in Houston, drove ~50 miles to the dealer, all paperwork in order, but no check. The rep spent quite a bit of time on the phone with VW but was unable to get a tracking number. I find this bizarre, who sends out a large check with no tracking number!

In our case we have not signed over the title - the rep said he would work tomorrow to accommodate us over his lunch hour to finalize the transaction (assuming of course the check shows up tomorrow). If not then we're probably looking at having to reschedule for February/March. This sucks in a big way, as we've already purchased the replacement!

I checked back in the evening and no luck, the check had not yet come in. Meanwhile our rep had found out that this had happened to 3 others in the Houston area (or so he stated). I also called the claims 800 number - they were of no use other than the person I spoke to stated that he had had another identical call today from South Carolina.

So maybe indeed VW is delayed on a number of checks but I have to say their system of getting checks to the reps at the 11th hour and 59 minutes seems totally out of whack.

...it's because of this forum we are slightly ahead of the game.

I saw this posting and called the dealership and asked for the ambassador.
Got her on the phone and verified that we have a 130 tomorrow, is the check ready...?

Yup, arrived today!

Yup. Some bean counter at VW has decided that if they wait until the last minute to cut the check, they gain the interest on their deposits for a day or two. They never learn.

Not an excuse, it is not like VW has not know about his! Typical VW BS :)

Of course, the interest accrues until the check is negotiated, not until it is printed, so if that's really the thought process they just aren't thinking straight...

I thought the buybacks were paid from an escrow fund, in which case any daily interest would accrue to the fund, not VW itself.

Making It Right

Just another example of VW "making it right".
What a bunch of imbeciles - led by Matthias Muller, the biggest one of all!

What is likely to be VW's last chance to win back a corp of, once enthusiastic & passionate, VW owners goes down as one more epic fail. We suffered enough ; who needs more aggravation when following their playbook to turn in one's "clean TDI"?

This is why I won't buy another VW.

No Check = No car!
Well yes, that's the approach we took in refusing to sign the paperwork and title when we heard the check was not there. But in addition to having to wait for the check to arrive, we are taking a bit of a chance in that our rep was unable to confirm 100% that we would be able to process the transaction after yesterday without going through the full rescheduling process - apparently the software they are using presents them with a list of pre-scheduled appointments for each day, and they are unable to add any more themselves. So having not encountered this before, he was not sure if our appointment would "remain live" for him to process today/tomorrow, even if said check arrived.

So while logical (to me) that we did not process the paperwork yesterday (unlike the OP) it is not clear yet whether we'll have any satisfaction any time soon.

UPDATE**

Today i get a call from a VW Rep and she advises me that she was holding my physical check in her hand and would be shipping overnight to me. She was unsure of what occurred but obviously numerous checks were never shipped out on time. I am currently waiting for a tracking number for the shipment.

I had a similar message from my settlement rep - to the effect that a batch of checks had not been sent out and were going to be overnighted today for arrival tomorrow. In my case to the dealership as I have not completed the transaction yet. He also stated that VW would contact me direct to provide a tracking number but that didn't happen. Let's see if the check actually shows up tomorrow...

My update: received my check today at 3 PM, a bit more than 2 days after my original appointment. The settlement specialist was very helpful and polite; I got the distinct impression that he felt equally let down by the main office.

I was finally able to get a tracking number today. It shows it's on the truck for delivery before 1030 am but it's now 530pm and I have yet to receive a anything. At least I know it was shipped tho and can monitor it.

If it were me in that seat ~~ and there was no check ~~ and I did all my part correct...

I would drive my car home until they have a check on the barrel head.

Since the situation is resolved for the OP and for me, there's no need to prolong this thread, but I have to point out that it's not as simple as this statement above. If we drove away and needed to reschedule the appointment, we were looking at a delay of at least 6 weeks. And also there's the issue of putting more miles on the car, definitely a concern for us being quite a distance from the dealer. Having to trust VW to come through in the end is always going to be an issue with this process as long as the reps are unable to generate the checks right on the spot. After all the way they have it set up, everyone who signs up for EFT is putting their faith in the process working as the EFT mechanics are all triggered after you sign your car over.

My exact situation... I couldn't afford to take the gamble of waiting weeks or months for a new appointment. I was put between a rock and a hard place and took my gamble on VW correcting the issue and getting me that check. My advice if your in a situation, keep on the phone calls until you get someone who can finally help.

On that note, happy holidays to all.
