After hours and hours of working on this finally I was able to make this happen.
I am able to enable Needle Sweep on all 2010+ clusters but only works with clusters that has NEC MCU.
This including MK6 and MK5 2010 models.

Here I made video that show you that Sweep in not available on VCDS , but still has needle sweep:

Not possible with VCDS. You have to have special tool to read/write eeprom memory of the cluster.
Plus you need to know what to do in Eeprom to not brick cluster.

I wish I was able to care enough about my car to want to do silly stuff like this.

For me, my car is about getting from point A to point B.

I used VCDS to enable cluster sweep on my 2014. It wasn't in the long coding. It was in adaptation. I'm not near my car or home computer. But the option was something like "enable instrument celebration." A lot of the other options were in German.

Some cluster does not have this function available in the adaptation, so it can not be done with VCDS.
Look my video in post #1.

Hey guys, I am new to the forum here, however I have been a long time lurker (about 2 years). I have had my tdi since new in 2012 and have done quite a bit of poking around in VCDS. I can't believe no one has figured this out yet... I have the needle sweep enabled on my 2013 model year, US spec Golf. It can be done with VCDS.

Not with all clusters.. reading comprehension.

My 2010, no matter which option in VCDS are tried it will not / can not active celebration.

I attach picture how to find out what cluster you have:

With VCDS go to 17-Instruments
Then

....
I seriously doubt that I will drive over 2,000 miles to see you to have this done, but just out of curiosity I looked at my instrument cluster while playing with VCDS today. I have a 2009 JSW (CBEA engine) and my cluster "Advanced ID" does not include the line you say to check. Here is what I get:

You will notice that the line you highlight, at the end of the info, to tell which panel I have is missing. I am just curious if you know what kind of cluster I have. Like I said, it is not worth a 2000+ mile drive to get a dial sweep, but now I am curious about what I have and whether or not it is possible. Thanks!

Have Fun!

Your car has Mirconas MCU dash , This dash was made form 2005-2009 and it has no function for sweep . This dash can have only needle Led up. Click on my signature MK5 Needle illumination.

This is the default on my wife's 2008 Scion xD - and I think it is the dumbest thing ever - who needs to see needles swing? I mean, it does *nothing*. If it calibrated them or something, sure, but truly. Who. The. Hell. Cares?

Am I correct in assuming that this also requires special equipment and not just VCDS? If yes, then it's cool but not worth the drive.

Have Fun!

You can always ship your cluster to me on your vacation time :).
LOL, I've been fixing complex machines for longer than I care to admit. I have developed an aversion to removing perfectly good parts unless necessary. However, You will be the first person I contact if my cluster ever fails.

Have Fun!

Jetta 97 - can you modify the Kombi eeprom so that the oil temperature sensor (in the oil pan) will be recognized by the instrument panel as it is in the VR6 clusters? After much digging and comparison, I've come to the conclusion that this is strictly a programming issue and recognize that specialized programming expertise is required. Couple other items that I would be interested in besides the sweep, is to make the coolant temperature more linear by remapping the curve. See this thread: Oil Temp sensor PM me. thanks.

It's time to refresh your knowledge of the vendor rules. Advertising threads must be posted in the vendor forum. I am going to move this thread there now... if you have an existing thread, it will be locked, as you can only have one thread.

you state you need specialist equipement to do this mod , basically you state that it needs the eeprom editing in the dash cluster to enable it . please share the locations in the dump and the new values that are needed as this can then be done with a cheap eeprom programmer and i little knowledge not $2000 of equipment . i would like to test youre theory on a a3 2010 tdi cluster . i have the resources and if it is only eeprom contents of the 24c32 or the 24c64 eeprom then it is actually only a few minutes work.

i have info that these are the actual locations that need to be changed at to these values ,however it would be nice to confirm this before i pull out the dash and open the clocks to try .

Sorry but I spend 1000 and 1000 hr to make this things happen. Some thing I will share but not all.
What you asking me is like asking TUNER to tell you what address in ECU need to be change with what value.
Also Audi A3 has different cluster and this can not be done . Audi A3 has Mirconas MCU not NEC.

you would need to read both 24cxx and cdc3217g to make any edits to a micronas type dash such as in the a3.

needle sweeping on nec dash is doable though.
