Here's a quick find & part #'s to a couple of known relays that have been problems for our cars. Can we start a sticky for part #'s for some of the more common parts? I wasn't sure if it would be good spot in this thread due to this being more of a "how to" thread.

Relay 219 - Power relay
Part #443951253AA

Relay 384 - Air Conditioning relay

I will leave that to MOGolf, very good idea though.

Here is one I'd like to see in that thread:

078-129-797 'clamp'

This is one of the 4 air cleaner lid clips that seem to be missing on a lot of B5s that come in here .

This thread is for posting known part numbers, not for asking "What is the p/n of ...". Use the "Search this thread" function to find part numbers for the part.

Bear in mind that part numbers are subject to change at any time. However, using an old part number at a good part supplier may get you the current part number if they have a cross reference. I've also experienced using a correct part number and the supplier cross referenced to a wrong part number. You have been warned. Use the information at your own risk.

If you have the ability to post the part number and a picture of the part, please do so. Obscure parts like connectors and wiring/hose retainers are good candidates for this.

I'll do a brain dump myself as time permits. I've got "a million of 'em" in my head. I might have ordered too many parts over the years.

3B1-819-425-B41 "cap"

This is the little black cap that covers one of the ECU cover's screws, the access hole in the lower windshield trim. These like to suddenly pop off and disappear into the bowels of the engine. Been doing a LOT of RC upgrades lately, and have to have a few on hand "just in case" :p

Please forgive the dumb question but..
Shouldn't you guys be listing the engine codes with your part no.s

Surely not all B5 TDI's are the same?

All of the parts listed are for the North American B5.5 Passat TDI. Yes, we only have the one engine code: BHW ;)

NGK Ceramic Glow Plugs

The NGK branded ceramic glow plug for the "2nd VW Fix (2010)" for remedying cold start issues. Plug contains metal sheathing along part of the ceramic element.

This GP will work with the original 7-volt programming but a re-flash at the dealer is recommended (required if 5-volt steel glow plugs were installed in the first VW attempt to fix cold start issues)

Charge air tubing seals:

3C0-145-117 (the smaller one)
3C0-145-117-F (larger one)

Smaller one is only at the turbo outlet, the larger ones are everywhere else.

Hi,
I have developed a leak the in the host connecting the turbo outlet to the intercooler cross pipe. The dealer wants $400 this rather simple hose. The part number is 3B0145838K. Does anyone know where I can get one of these, or how to repair the one I have? Seems to me the unique connectors at either end can be resued, and a simple radiator hose would suffice between them. Any recommendations here?

replacement of the tube itself

I did not do the damage, but just changed my oil yesterday and found the tube had broken off close to its position near the engine. Someone attempted to glue it back together- not very well. It came apart completely so I'd like to replace it. Can I do this myself? Any suggestions? not sure how it comes apart/goes back together. Hope to hear from you.I guess I could go to the dealer, but I'd rather not if I can do this myself.

Pretty common part failure. Use a piece of heater hose and a couple of clamps to make a temporary repair and order a new one from www.worldimpex.com, www.idparts.com or any of the vendors who support this website. The piece of the plastic tube that is still on the steel pipe pulls right off. The new one just slips over the steel pipe. Make sure it is fully seated, or it will just fall off. (Ask me how I know )

3B0498203-D used to be for an outer CV boot kit that included the big center bolt that is a use once app.
I just bought 3B0498203-F and not only does it not include the bolt, but they didn't have a bolt to sell me, couldn't find it on the system. The -D is no longer available, but as a consolation prize, they did include an extra boot clamp, the larger one...
So returned it since I got a raxle and they charged a 20% restocking fee, even though I think the part is essentially defective without the bolt. Eff them, never again will I shop there and I told them so.
Beware of this sub standard boot kit.

Rear Calipers

Most of the "Club" vendors do not list these most likely due to limited sales. My e-brakes are sticking to the point that I need to replace the calipers. OE brand for the rears are Lucas.

For anyone interested , I didn't have ALL the correct DZUS fasteners for my skid plate (2005 Passat) and FINALLY discovered that they can be had from DieselGeek for $1.00 each. There is a $6 shipping charge, but I bought 10 of the little things so the cost became reasonable. I got all long ones (21mm) and will use them where the 20s go with a soft washer. $5 each from the dealership is a PITA, and sooner or later, you'll need some extras. Maybe your buddy will want some too!

Skid Plate Fasteners

I did not like the quarter turn fasteners. I did get a couple new ones from the dealer and the next time I was under the car one of them was missing. So I went to the hardware store and got some u-nuts and regular hex-head bolts. I replaced all of them. I have not lost any of these in over a year! Total cost was less than one quarter turn fastener! I like the tighter fit too!

The correct ones, properly installed, won't "fall out". What happens is, people don't realize they are different length, and they also try and use a screwdriver to install them rather than the proper tool.

As well as what Oilhammer said above, in some locations there should be a flat rubber washer that has to be pulled onto the shaft of those fasteners. With that installed, the bolt/fastener cannot fall out completely!

I believe the left part # has a typo. Last letters should be "BC"
