Frank is a mechanic guys, he has a two bay garage and a lift. He works on cars all the time, has a ton of tools/equipment, plus does rebuilds.

Moderator can you move these posts to their proper place and clean up this thread?

First, thank you, who know me and support me. Tornado Red hasn't been by in several years. We have expanded the shop to include a lift and have employees.

I know what customer we are talking about...

This same person had bad experiences with a dealership. They cost him a lot of money and time with NO RESULTS. When I got that same car, I spotted exactly what was wrong and fixed it correctly and accurately... I might mention, it wasn't exactly a cheap fix, but it beats having the car sit another year in a field.

We do know what we are doing. We are fixing other people's mistakes often enough. Our shop rates are reasonable. We are less than many. But when you bring a problem in and want it fixed, it takes time and money.

We never assumed a repair, but always ask permission before proceeding.
As far as honesty, we take these questions of our ethics as an affront. We sure don't have to make things up, pad the bill or in any way, cheat a customer. More than that, we own up to a mistake and fix our own problems.

Truthfully, we have seen some instances that the customer wants repairs done that are too expensive. We have a saying..."Some are worth more dead than alive". We try to be as honest, without being brutally honest. Some people insist on repairing when it's not worth it.

There is a customer had a problem BRM. Bad PD injectors and DSG transmission. I told him the car needed more repairs than it was worth. I didn't do the repairs. About 6 months later, another local mechanic has the car...replaced the transmission and it still won't run... I helped the other mechanic get out of his situation with the answer to his dillemma.

Not only did the owner take a beating on this vehicle, so did the mechanics. I didn't feel good charging for investigation that wasn't going to make the car work. I personally had more than a day into that car. The other mechanic squandered 40 hrs of uncharged time and the owner STILL is upside down. It could have been worse if there had been ruthless mechanics into the mix.

My feeling... If you don't like the price for the work that is needed on a car to make it SAFE and EFFECTIVE, DON'T FIX THE CAR. JUNK IT OUT. Don't cut corners. Cheap parts are junk parts. Cheap mechanics are cheap for a reason.

'Nuff said

I guess I need to make a road trip down to Lockwood so I can catch up on the further adventures of Frank. Based on this new information, I think Frank should be added to the list of trusted TDI mechanics.

I have used:

David Shaw's Auto Repair
18515 E. Colonial Dr.
Orlando, FL (Bithlo)
407-568-2611

for many years; at least the 16 years I have had my '98 Jetta TDI. They have worked on it and our Y2K Bug TDI, that we owned from about 2004 to recently.

They have replaced timing belts, A/C compressors, water pumps, and chased down various electrical bugaboos. They are quite reasonable, don't BS you, nor charge you for stuff you don't need, and price shop for the best prices on parts. The only drawback, is you might have to wait a couple days after you drop off your vehicle, before they can get to it.

Hey New Englanders! I had a semi-emergency situation this week. On my way to work Monday, my U-joints started making a horrible noise and I thought I was going to have to give AAA a call. However, I checked the Trusted Mechanics listings in the area and found Mr. Volks - Bob Mann only a few minutes away. He got me in immediately and even set me up with a loaner vehicle while he got my Passat back in shape. I picked it up today and the work was top notch. Bob's the Real Deal, very accommodating and very easy to work with.

Thanks again Bob!

I have been working on Volkswagens for over 20 years. I have experience working on MkIII thru MkVI TDI's. I utilize VCDS with a HEX+CAN cable. I have DSG service tools and supplies. I have many TDI special tools and always take the time to do the job right. I work out of my garage/shop so my fees are very reasonable.

I've known Mark for about the entire time he has been wrenching on cars and quite a few of them have been mine, he does anything from general maintenance to performance mods to make your car go fast.. I've been trying to get him to add his name as a trusted mechanic for a while and he finally has..

I’d like to second Mark Talbot’s (AHUTDI) recommendation for Trusted TDI mechanic. He’s done a lot of work over the past few years on my TDI’s. He’s recently changed the DSG oil and DMF on my wife’s 06 Jetta BRM, as well as replaced the Cam, TB, and clutch on my 04 Jetta BEW Wagon. He’s very competent and detailed oriented when it comes to the work he does. I’ve recommended him to other friends who run TDI’s and they all have had very good experiences.

Another thumbs-up for Mark/AHUTDI - Mark has a great deal of experience and a fantastic attention to detail, and maintains a broad network of parts guys, machinists, and other specialists to back him up.

I've known Mark for many years and watched him work on countless vehicles, including my own (a large part of the reason my MkIII is still running strong at almost 240,000 miles is due to his care). One thing I've observed is that he treats each vehicle like it was his own, without compromising quality of work or taking questionable shortcuts - he won't do anything to a customer's car that he wouldn't do to his own under the same circumstances.

I've sent other folks his way, and have no hesitation recommending him here as a trusted TDI mechanic.

I have a golf 04 tdi that Craig the owner has worked on several times. His shop is where all the other shops that can't figure out how to fix VW & Audi's send their cars. He specializes in diesels and worked and trained at VW dealer for 10 years before opening his own shop. Good prices and honest work.
Cheers, Tar

NEW YORK, Long Island Nassau Couty. Asked before- is there anyone here that can do a TDI 09' timing belt kit. I know we have no Guru, but do we have any experienced diesel/German techs in the area? I have little faith in the dealers. Thanks, Stan

I used Nathan for my 2003 VW TDI Bug that had broken accessory bracket and timing belt replacement. He is very professional uses the correct tools and is reasonably priced. He also use only high quality replacement parts from trusted suppliers. I would highly recommend him and will use him again in the future.

Any one know of a good mechanic in Lubbock or Amarillo, TX?
Thanks
When there is no TDI specialist nearby, then you need to find the very best mechanic in town even if he is not a VW expert. You also need to become as well-informed as you can about your own car. Between you and your mechanic, and with help from TDIClub, you should be able to avoid the VW dealerships. That will be one of your highest priorities, because the best dealerships will just take your money, but the rest of them will wreck your TDI.

Gotta keep up my lifetime powertrain warranty. All shops have to be pre-approved. Hopefully I can find a good import shop here. Jason King was our local guru, Maybe he's still active here and can give me a tip.

Anyone have any experience with D&A in Pinellas Park FL? I did searches on this site for D&A, D & A, 4895, and Pinellas Park and he didn't come up at all. I moved to Pinellas Park in 1985 and the shop was already here when I got here. I'm thinking it odd that there's no mention of him on this site at all with him being in service for 30 years. My next step is going to be to search the internet at large ... wondering if he's got a bad rep or something. (EDIT: Found 1 good review on Yelp, no other reviews on any other site. Strange?)

Great VW Mechanic

I was so glad I came on the TDI forums and found Mark Talbot's name! My 2005 Jetta wagon was due for a timing belt and I was trying to find someone I could trust to do it. Lo and behold here he was just a few miles from my home He did a great job at a great price. So impressed with him that I've convinced my son, who lives in Montana, to drive his 2004 Jetta wagon TDI (186,000 miles) to Virginia this summer to let Mark work on it.

Can we please update the name of V-DUB Autohaus in Houston, TX. The name has changed to Das Autohaus due to VW apparently having a copy right on "V-DUB". The location and contact is still the same. New website is: http://dasautohaus.org

Had a chance to get to Everything Euro while visiting Winston Salem, NC. Needed some maintenance and got a Malone Stage 1. Great work from Walt and the Malone tune went without a hitch. Not sure what qualifies for Guru status but Walt has the most certificates of excellence, training and experience for TDI's on the wall I have ever seen. These guys are good.

Please update the list - They moved

I went to the address on the list and only after the work was done did realize I had gone to the wrong place. They moved to a larger building down the street. The old address now specializes in Porsche, Jaguar, Audi... Hopefully my new injector pump doesn't explode. Especially after dropping @ 2K on it.:(

The correct address is:
3800 N 7th Street

Another for Arizona:

Independent Automotive Services
4825 N 7TH STREET
PHOENIX, AZ 85014
(602) 234-9783

This shop and the already-listed Exklusiv are the only two places I'd take my VW.
